Hey fellas, this started as a speed painting of some mountains, and turned into this. Anyway, crits welcome! Just for the record, his left foot is indeed in water. :P

Crits and comments are always welcomed warmly, although I'm probably not gonna make any major changes unless there's something really wrong. ;)

The arm with the sheild in it looks funny. It almost looks like the sheild is farther back than the front of his face. Maybe itd look better if it were farther forward and turned a little so it goes in front of his face too. But, since you said you probably wont change it, nice job. I really like the dragon in the sky.

That is quite wonderful..regarless of any minor issues...the colours and mood are fantastic...

I like it.
Though I think the dragon is a little more 'hidden' in all the fog and stuff then I would've put it but I can't paint very well yet so what do i know eh.

I'm reacting to the atmospheric perspective. It doesn't make sense to me. The sky is green and the mountains are blue-cyan. Both the value and hue seem to not match at places.

Hey guys, thanks for the great comments! Lemme dig right in

Whitejake - I can see the quandry about the shield. Thanks!

Kaylon - gracias

NeoSavior007 - Cool, don't degrade yourself!

Prometheus - Sorry! I find it pleasant myself, perhaps my lack of education in art lets me overlook the inconsistency?

Scotty - Thanks

keun-chul - gracais

One more thing. Is the guy supposed to be a giant? Because the river he's standing in goes back towards the mountains and he just seems so much bigger than the mountains, but if he's supposed to be a giant that make sense. I think I've seen an earlier version of this though where you could see that there was a cliff separating but in this one you cant really tell that so he just seems huge.

The mood and rendering are nice. Concept is also interesting.

It would be cool to see another compostition.

landscape is nice BTW..

Hey guys, I've made some of the changes suggested, and some that weren't, and I think the image should be much clearer now. The water should be more blue than before, so if its not, try reloading. :D

whitejake - Yeah, he's a giant. Always was actually, it was just hard to tell I guess. Seemed obvious to me because...I knew that's what I was thinking. ;)

deviousg - Thanks. Here's a "book cover" crop, to see how a tighter comp looks. What do you guys think?

I figured he was a giant, but I figured I'd make sure anyways just in case.

Nice concept!!!

I have two things that bother me about this though. First the feet seem to be pointing in awkward directions for him to be standing like that. It is possible for him to be like that, but not comfortable. It looks like he's slipping and sliding in the mud on the bottom of the lake.
Second, the arm holding the shield seems to be in an awkward position too. Again, it is possible for him to be like that, but you only hold your arm straight up like that when you're flipping off someone, not when you're holding a shield. He would be holding it diagonally and more comfortably so he can move it any which way to block blows. It looks like he's playing peek-a-boo with it.

Anyhoo, I hope you see what I see so that I don't seem crazy or picky ...

the new cropping is better--love the dragons head

mountain cracks--where his foot is-- could use a little touch up

Wow, that is really cool! I think the colors you have in there are magnificent! Perfect blend of colors, such nice deep colors. Yeah, that is definetly cool!

Hey guys, thanks so much. I'm happy you enjoyed the image! Maybe I can submit this one to Expose'. :]

Emptypants - Not picky at all! I love good observations :) I wish now that I had a more dynamic pose on the figure, but really, it sort of fits the "Biblical" or "Saintly" posture one might expect. Sort of an uber-self assurance, even in the face of such a beast! :]

From what I see, its not only the way he's holding up the shield, but the bigger problem is how the shield is attached to the arm. The straps on the shield should be vertical so your arm is down the shield would be sideways, and not upside down like you have it right now.
