Documenting people feels voyeuristic to me, but I do enjoy it. I'm becoming less guilty and more audacious.

They were giving away free icecream at college to day, to promote the college ball. I didn't actually have time to join the epic queue, but I did document it. :tihi:

No, this isn't a William Shatner impersonator..

I happened upon a news crew.

I've found that my new camera is like a ticket into a secret club of photographers. A professional photographer struck up a conversation with me on the train home, upon seeing my camera. That was neat.

Awesome.
I can identify with what your saying about photographing in public. Its something I wanna do, maybe an SLR can makes you feel a bit more justified taking peoples photos, more like a real photographer in a sense?

Nice to see spring has arrived in Ireland. Here in Sweden its had a really slow start but its beginning to pick up.

The set is very interesting. Cool to get a view of your city, its a whole different thing with people than boring stuff like lamp posts and railing or whatever is the usual photographers subjects. The shots with people on the grass makes me really happy, they have that summer feeling. I like the shots of the workers, the colors and the DOF work out really well here. I want to see their faces though.

Thanks for sharing some of your surroundings!

WOWOWOW!

This is the best i have seen from you Bill!
I'm Impressed! Maybe it has a lot to do with you having a new camera...
But so what...!
Really nice man.. The flower, the engineers, the reporter, the first photo with that lavish huge tree in the background that almost looks like a painting.
Good stuff!

This is great stuff! Great job! I mean, technically speaking all these photos look bloody great, going along with all the photography rules.

They are the pack's best compositions. :^^:

Thanks guys!

what's audacious about taking pictures of people eating ice cream?

The title is referring to my other thread, hence "becoming". I am starting to take pictures of people now.

Thanks. Yeah, certainly more self-aware.

I want to see their faces though.

Yeah, I intend to be more active in that respect. Yesterday I was basically just walking around capturing images that interested me. I will be more brave, the more I get used to it.

Changed the monk picture to give him more headroom.

Great start. If I had one crit it would be the same one that my uncle gave me when I started shooting. All of my pictures of people were from the rear quarter, side or at most, the front quarter of the subject's face (as with your newsman.)

I would suggest trying to get a full frontal shot (of the face). You may feel more comfortable starting with people that you know, but the closer to straight on that you get, the better a viewer will be able to connect with your subject.

Focus and exposure and everything look great. Thanks for sharing.

really cool, bill! that's a great set of photos - my favourite has to be the busdriver-pic, really like that sort of timeless feeling it has. good choice to go with b/w, i guess. on second place is the falling sky, just beautifully crisp and clean. congratulations on your braveness, hope to see more soon! cheers,
