Hi there!
I've got the small part to be done and i guess that people making miniatures could help me with some advices. I'd really appreciate it!
Ok, Here's the story. My company releases the new product. In general it's a bunch of small boards stacking like a sandwich. All of this stuff is housed in aluminum cube-like case with the faceplate that has holes for frontal connectors. Here's the snapshot (http://www.ueidaq.com/products/powerdna/) of the unit. Sometimes one or two layers might be absent leaving the connectors' holes open :( For this case i came up with idea to fabricate snapping cap that works both as dustproof cover and decoration. Take a look:

Taking into account the quantity of caps we will need (max 200 pcs/year) it's VERY expensive to fabricate mold. Price per piece is also very high. The best quote i received is around $5k for tooling only but we have no choice!
Anyway, i decided to make the draft prototype. I'm thinking about making simple mold and a couple of repros to play with. I'd really like to know what kind of material would be suitable for my task. What the mold should be made of? Clay, plasticine...? Waht kind of material would work for filler. Pourable rubber....? Any advise would be very helpful!
In order to simplify my task, i decided to replace circular snap fingers with something like this:

I realize that this could be quite complicated even regardless my poor sculpture skills :D but i'm sure it's gonna be much fun and very helpful experience. The problem is i don't know what to start with. Once again, any advices on that are very welcome!
