wow...
i like the blood stains. looks like actual 2d stains on a layer above the painting.
i have an idea where she stores all the blood she drinks. sorta like a camel :D
it's amazing what one can learn just by watching your artwort closely.
both old masters techniques and conversion to digital.
just out of curiosity: what size is an image like that when you work on it?

I use very little reference...though gustave klimt was a huge helping hand in this one...its my homage to klimt. ;)

only double that size?!? argh..
that makes like 1200 x 1500
i always think when i see artwork klike that: "well... there's a huge amount of skill in it but also a huge working size, up in the 3, 4, 5 thousands."
now, you tell me you painted that one on a smaller canvas than the size i open up when i start sketching (2000x2000).
argh :)
edit: are you allowed to show some 100% closeups so we can see a bit more of your brush ductus?
if it isn't too much trouble for ya of course :)

She looks so white trash. A white trailer trash vampire. A lot of that is captured in the facial features as well, instead of having a statuesque beauty, you've lended more of that 'bloodsucking girl next door' appeal with the rounded features.
The blood stain on her right arm looks a bit weird, though, as if there's a patch on her arm that's plastic or something. Just a minor quibble.

HAHAHAH !! I saw a higher resolution pic on a coworker desktop at lunch and went "wow ! Hey wait a minute I know this style..." and got closer and it drove me crazy to know exactly who was the artist. I was planning on digging trough the web this afternoon after the usual stop at conceptart.org forums but.. THANK YOU :D

Nice and dark... my fav. Was wondering what is that mark on her stomach? Looks like a water mark from a tradional painting... but this is digital, right?

Okay, I don't want to seem insulting or anything, but why the heck would you waste this kind of massive talent doing concept art for video games? This SHOULD be on the front of a novel or a RPG book (or at least the front of the game box/cover)..something that will showcase it..not to be used by a 3D artist to make a model of it...bleh
Sorry, just seems like a waste to me.

I am happy that the input is decent for this piece...it happened very very quickly and under tight deadlines. I think I spent two evenings on it and that is it. I wish they all came out so quickly.
I have a comment in regards to what was said...KINGOFCHAOS' post...art for video games is a fun gig...I do do some book cover freelance and such but honestly I prefer to do concepts that can be used by modellers and texture artists. The best part about doing that is that you get to see how a modeller, a texture artist, and even the animator handles what you have given them. The second best part is that the work you do is not done being used yet...it is then used by the marketing departments for ads, initial promotions, and posters..and trading cards...and...and ...and....and.....
games is a great avenue for getting your work out there.
something also must be noted in regards to doing concept art that is not just in direct relation to the production pipeline (quick line or marker drawings) is that if you make something cool it can be used...even for such things as securing large game contracts from major publishers...which this image was one of a group of different things that I did in order to help land the title for troika...with troika.
ya gotta see the big picture....
to those who replied...i appreciate it.
jason
PS joshuaTheJames....I did twelve paintings to this level of finish during the week I did this one....matter of fact, I did this for troika for free. I wasnt supposed to start the week I did..but I made two of these and two full body characters for them on top of my usual wordload I was wrapping up...because it helped them with the title i so wanted to work on....i mean come on...the half life two engine and vampires...lol...fun fun fun
I wasnt sleeping.

I can see that she has made a very nice transition to 3d from the video of the game which was recently released. She's got some of the same smug look about her, that kind of deadly innocence. The 3d guys had a nice starting point.

Ugh thats beautiful. I've been a fan of the pen and paper game for a while, and it's always been a want to model some of the rulebook art into 3d characters. I'm really looking forward to this title. Keep us posted on other peices you can release when the times right.

I wasnt sleeping.
Hell yeah. Not only that, but when I was a Turbine, not only did you not sleep, but you'd work EASILY 16 hours days sometimes, if not more. I've slept at the office a couple of times (never gonna do that again).
Let's not mention Crunch Time...
It's a lot of works and it shows. Great job, Jason, as usual.
