Armored Warrior Thread

Armored warriors is a huge part of conceptual design, as many games like to dive deep into the past and take from mythological stories and make their own, since it's a fantasy world based on something from our own history.

When you hear "armored warrior"... what do you think? Plate mail, swords and sheilds. That's fine... but what if we moved away from that?

Most of of us/you have seen the lord of the rings movies, one thing you notice is that most characters don't even have metal besides their weapons. Leather armor and padding mixed with capes and robes.

From detailed embroidery to color studies, i would like to see a range of unique armor designs from this community. more than just 100% steel warriors.

I will be doing a series of sketches/concepts and will be posting shortly.

Great images, Atomick and Davi. This should be an interesting thread if it develops properly. I'm curious to see an interpretation of a warrior that breaks away from the standardized ultra-armored-steroid buffoon.

Mhm, I don´´t know if this is the stuff you want to see here but anyway here are two armour sketches I made.

First an older one. This is a preliminary sketch for a reenactment-kitguide showing a khavarian warrior from the mid 10th century. He´s wearing a leather or horn lamellar armour and leather shinguards.

This one I made last week after visiting the italian castle of Avio. I´ve made some rough sketches of the mid 14th cent. frescoes in the guard-house. He´s wearing a gambeson - quilted cloth-armour - and a coat-of-plates.
