Concept of a female sideckick for spiderman. It is not necessary to be Tarrantula Girl... but some one to be remebered just as Cat Woman or Robin was in Batman. (not that Robin was a girl... ;) )
Think costume/color palete/posing - everything that makes a super hero... sidekick.

Now... concept! :yayca:

Ok well to go ahead and clear the waters there is both a Spidergirl and Spiderwoman. Spidergirl is May Parker, Spidermans daugther, who inherited her fathers powers and who has taken up the superhero torch where Peter left off. Spiderwoman has no relationship to Spiderman although she too gained her powers through an irradiated spider. She possesses super strength and dexterity much like Spiderman but lacks spider sense and webshooters. So those ideas are taken for those who are considering a sidekick whose a carbon copy of or very near to Spiderman.

Where did you got the info bout those two?? I left the cartoon when he gets ass-kikced by Venom and Carnage in Contraearth (I think the name was Contraearth)
Or was it from the comic, cuz the new comic never reached my city.

artiphats
April 19th, 2006, 08:24 PM
well, the first thing I am thinking is that the sidekick should be able to keep up with Spiderman when he is swinging around. Maybe she doesn't shoot webs like he does but instead uses some kind of hook and lines gizmo. Maybe she can jump really far, or can fly. Damn I just realized there are so many comic book characters coming up with a new one aint gonna be easy! What goes good with a spider? hmmm.

Thoras I found it all here. This is basically a compendium of Marvel characters. Look it up under "S" in the Individuals link. Also I dont think a scorpion is the way to go since one of Spidermans main villains was the Scorpion. http://www.marveldirectory.com/directory.htm

In terms of coming up with a sidekick I dont envy anyone who is doing this weeks CHoW. Spiderman is really one of the most capable superheros out there. Hes quick, superstrong, agile, intelligent, etc., the list could go on and on. So this sidekick has to really bring something to the table so that Spiderman would consider her an asset and not a hindrance. However heres a few things that popped into my head. Like Artiphats mentioned she has to be an extremely quick character. No plodding thug strongwomen. So whether she flies, jumps, runs superfast, rides a jetbike, or whatever she needs to keep up so she can provide backup. Cuz as well all know backup is the sole purpose of the sidekick. I think an essential thing would be that she carry spare supplies for her mentor. So she needs to have a ready supply of extra web cartridges of varying types for every occassion, perhaps even a spare costume in case Spidey tears his duds during a big rumble. Also whatever superpower this character has it cant overshadow Spidermans powers. A sidekick is both less experienced and trained in addition to having only fledling powers. Also I dont think its completely necessary that she be arachnid related. Her costume should probably contain elements of Spideys so that the two seem cohesive but she doesnt necessarily have to use a spider as her hero handle. Think of Robin. What do bats and robins really have in common aside from flight and a love for insects? But the connection was still there because they had flight in common and apparently that was enough. So perhaps a young woman in blue/red with lots of utility belts containing extra supplies. The real tricky part is determining her powers. I find that making up a little story about a character helps to flesh them out, something along the lines of an origin story. Just something to work from, hope this helped, just throwing some ideas out.

actually the one failing Spiderman has is that he is totally emo
a side kick whois level headed might be just the ticket

True enough but I imagine at the age that Spiderman might need a sidekick he would have gotten rid of his angsty youthful tendencies. Hes done alot of growing up as the series has progressed.

Im soooooo on this one. and can any one tell me what the hell EMO means?

Nexus
April 19th, 2006, 11:49 PM
EMO is short for emotional. Its a type of music thats based mostly in punk rock that deals with relationships, matters of the heart, etc. From what I can tell one day a punk rock kid picked up his guitar after a horrible breakup with his girlfriend and started whining in time to a beat. I consider it Punk Lite. Of couse like punk emo has spawned its own way to dress and act. Stereotypically an emo kid is someone whose eternally depressed about life in general who dresses in an alternative fashion.

April 19th, 2006, 11:49 PM
emo = (punk - (1/2 time drum signature)) + (ample acoustic guitar x off key singing)(whining + apologizing)

I hope many of this weeks entries contain rediculous overly large breasts....

Well...why the hell not, I'll have a go too.

Since everybody is tossing out their thought process...a sidekick for a superhero should have the ability to complement their mentor's superior gifts. In the Marvel Universe think Bucky for Captain America...Rick Jones for the Hulk...Jubi-f'n-lee for Wolverine. None of them stand alone as an even decent "hero", but are able to help out and push the hero over the top to victory. So remember that when you make up your little sidekick...Spidey isn't exactly a world beater, so his sidekick ought not be either. They also tend to die...(see previous example of Bucky...and Oblio's reference to Robin(second generation))

I hope you're up in this Posh...I've missed your stunning productions.

A recognised child genius Chloe Mane worked for her father's weapons development and research company. During a test of a machine affectionately known as 'Cuisineart for the Soul', the weapon went out of control killing four technicians and putting Chloe into a coma, with terrible internal injuries.

The doctors tested her brain activity and found that both halves of her brain were wholey separated by a pulse of energy during the test. Believing this to be the cause of the coma, and knowing that brain matter didn't regrow, the doctors could only offer an experimental treatment used to help seizure sufferers. Plethodontid Salamander Genes carried by an altered Herpes Simplex were introduced into her DNA. Now with a greatly increased healing factor her body fixed everything except the bridge between the two halves of her brain.

Over the next year Chloe (supposedly on an extended holiday) grew stronger, much stronger, her father turned his business over to making non lethal weapons and equipment for the police, private firms and the military, Chloe excelled more than before, capable of doing two wholly different tasks at once, she more than doubled her output of new designs, but needed something more. At night she would go free running, racing across the roofs of the city without a care in the world. When she stumbled upon a robbery in progress she couldn't help but intercede, it was quick, easy and more importantly fun, she wanted that rush again.

Using the company's equipment Chloe made herself a suit of chromoreactive fibre with her own patented gecko gloves and boots as well as a self stick bungie whip and two bft (blunt force trauma) guns that fired globs of air reactive/solid rubber projectiles. To finish it off she took a pair of multivision goggles and modified them to react to the wearers sight line.

The Chameleon was ready, but someone was watching and he didn't want her charging in without a clue...

Sonar: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e354/GratefulDread/sidekikcolorshrunk2.jpg
Spidey's not one to have a sidekick for the most part. However, During a particularly ferocious battle with Venom, he and Spidey crashed through the roof of a Hell's Kitchen apt. The apt. belonged to Meghan Campbell and her parents. The Intense sonic shriek Meghan unleashed drove Venom into an uncontrolable rage. In the chaos both Meghan's parents were killed. Venom turned toward an unconcious Spidey to go in for the kill at which point Meghan unthinkingly threw herself at venom slapping at him relentlesly. Combined with her symbiote (sp?) disrupting shreiks (causing Venom intense pain) her individual cells began to fluctuate at such a rate that with every contact a smallsonic boom was unleashed driving the ferocious beast back with each blow. Spidey awoke just in time to see Meghan force venom back through the hole in the ceiling whence he came. Spidey being the guilt filled hero he is could not allow Meghan to go unguided. feeling responsible for the death of her parents he took this fledgling superpower under his wing and dubbed her Sonar. She has been a remarkable ally in battles against venom, although she still has much to learn about her powers and they occasionally fail her in intense situations. She is able to keep up with Spidey through the city by Vibrating her molecules fast enough to allow her using her staff to vault from building to building, she moves so fast she almost appears to fly. Her powers do have a few fall backs, for example, she requires much more energy than the average 13 year old due to her superfast metabolism. Which is why she carries specially formulated quick digesting protien and glucose tablets in capsules on her leg. She chose the color scheme and layout of her costume in homage to her mentor.
I'm still new to digital painting and createdthe image way too large so it became a little pixelated when I shrank it down. some of the colors seem off as well. This is actually my first entry in an "OF the week" contest so crits are more than welcome. If anyone would like to see the pencils let me know I prefer them over the color to be quite honest. total about 6 hours.
can anyone help me with a few techniques 2 give that really polished finished look?

GratefulDread
April 23rd, 2006, 11:15 PM
Paddy I like the idea, but she seems way too standalone to be a sidekick. Spidey might interviene and help her out but I'm not to sure about sidekick level. the only way spidey would take on a protge' is if she was a hard luck case. Besides mary jane would never be ok with peter hanging out with a chick with that body.

edit: Err, She's calling herself Synergy, age 16, she's extraordinaly intelligent (way over Mensa level) and has psionic powers, such as levitation, telepathy and the ability to deliver psychic "stings". The suit she designed to enhance these feats and power herself up. While not possessing superhuman strength, she's still able to deliver Spidey from nasty situations with her wit and mind-tackling tricks. She actually outsmarts Spidey by a few lengths (hey sh's a woman right) but wouldn't dream of taking the glory. See, she reveres him like a god and in fact has a huge teenage crush on the webhead, though she'd die before admitting it.

Heya... here's my idea.

http://www.geocities.com/moon_fish69/chowspidercopy.jpg

I went with a psy-ninja thang - cause the spidey sense is for the weak. I figured since Spiderman is good in combat, infiltration, and has ludicrous mobility, all he would really need is someone who could be as sneaky as himself, provide him with extrasensory intel, and take care of herself in hand to hand if need be. Hence the funny box on her head, which enhances her psychic sense, as well as allowing her limited powers of psychic suggestion, and the kali sticks on her back. I'm bad with names, so I won't bother. :)

I've wanted to put in a few hrs on this, but I have a high maintenance baby, so I got to put in 45 mins. But it was fun.

Peace, yo.

Aaaaaaaaaaaghhhh. I really wanted to have this really polished for my first CHOW but I'm leaving the country for a few weeks in a few hours.

Anyway, this is a bit of a boycott of spandex in comics. Don't get me wrong, it had it's place, and I love the spiderman costume, but I think that fashion in comics should evolve over time. So for this character I went with less of a costume and more of something that someone would actually wear; something that would draw a bit less attention than a bright red unitard. I know it's not much for secret identities but neither is taking off your glasses.

Melissa was always a tough girl. She grew up in a bad neighborhood and learned at an early age how to defend herself from people much bigger than she was. It wasn't untill her family was attacked by the Kingpins henchmen that she realised just how tough she really was. Never one to back down, she stood outnumbered and unarmed against a group of professional killers. Brave as she was, they were not afraid to attack a defenceless girl, and opened fire on Melissa, but the bullets did nothing. Not even so much as a bruise. Before she had realised why she still lived she lashed out at her attackers, doing enough damage to hospitalize four of the men. Her victory was short lived however, when the Kingpin and his men turned instead to Melissas parents, gunning them down in a hail of bullets.
Alone and afraid, Melissa's thoughts turned only to revenge. She swore to avenge her parents deaths by killing the Kingpin. A chance encounter with spiderman however would change her life again. Something about Melissa struck a chord with Spidey and he decided to give her some guidance in dealing with her grief. Over time he managed to instill in her some of the ideas of power and responsibility that his uncle had tought him. In return, spiderman gained an important aly in the streets. Someone who could gain access to the places where neither he, nor his alter ego Peter Parker could.

Lady Venom. A sidekick like Catwomen for batman she is not always on Spiderman’s side but there is a mutual attraction between them. She has no super powers but is extremely athletic and has little finger talons which each one has a different spider poison so she can paralyse all the ways up to killing.
