Hey guys, I've been working on this for quite a while. Its my first sculpture and I'm really happy with how it turned out. The pictures really bring out a lot of the imperfections in the clay, but I'm planning on casting it in silicone so that I can punch in hair on its head and maybe even in its ears. I'm making it for my girlfriend. Anyway, let me know what you think

Wow... nice job. Did you cook it with the eyes in? Are they glass?

Yep, cooked it with the eyes in. I got them from Tohickan Glass Eyes. I emailed them first to make sure it would be okay, and they said it wouldnt be any problem. They held up just fine. No cracks or discolouration.....The only thing is that when i cast him, I'm gonna have to dig them out to put them into the finished cast :) Theres a bit of a film on the eyes in these pics. They look much better in real life after I clean them...I didnt realize how dirty they were when I took the pics. I'm also gonna coat them with 2 minute epoxy when hes all finished to give it a realistic meniscus curve of tears near the eye lids

Thanks for all the compliments guys :) this was my first one, so its really encouraging for me when I make another. I've already got a design in mind (actually, on paper now too :) )I really appreciate it, especially coming from all the talented people on these boards

very nice work. I love the helpless look on his face. On a side note, does anyone know what species yoda is?

Awesome sculpture! Really nice work, and it's definitely a believable concept of baby Yoda. The only weird thing is that he seems to lack reproductive organs? :P

lol, well I decided to lean on the side of good taste in that respect...I wont lie though, it did cross my mind. When I give it to my girlfriend, hes gona be wrapped in a blanket. She has the same sick sense of humour that I do, so I'm sure shes gonna check. Maybe I'll put a little 'sicko' sticker down there.......He does have an ass crack......Thank you very much for the compliment :)

I'm really flattered by all the nice comments. Thanks again
poop on a stick - I've actually been working on it for a really long time. I started at the begining of October and only finished recently. I reworked a few of the areas about 100 times until I was happy with them.
junior 7 - This was just the sculpey version. I'm gonna cast him in silicone and then I'm gonna paint him green.

Realy want to see the painted version then haha Looks cool allready.
Are u goanna airbrush him, or what are u goanna use?

JeroArt, I'm trying to decide that right now. I'm definately casting him in silicone, but I've seen some sculptures of human babies done in coloured silicone and they looked so real. I'm worried that green coloured silicone will look too plasticy. If thats the case, I'll be airbrushing him. From what I've seen, the paint job can make or break the realism and it'll be my first one :$ What do you guys think? airbrush or coloured silicone? assuming it will be a decent paint job

omg adorable, I wonder how painful it will be to breastfeed this child !!! Your girlfriend is so going to love this :D

Sounds like with airbrush u got the most control of the final result, i don't
know about the silicone stuff. I airbrushed myself (on walls, scooters, paper etc)
and i know how detailed u can go, so.. :P
And if u do the colored silicone, u can always airbrush him after? or not?
Cuz then u don't realy have to worry i think hehe.

Make more and sell them. I'd buy one for sure. :D I love it, and I'm envious.

JeroArt - ya, you're probably right. I kinda wanted to go with the airbrush to begin with. That way I'm more resposible for the final look. If it looks good, I'll feel a better sense of accomplishment that way. And ya, if I colour the silicone anyway, it might give me a good base to work with.
Artastic - lol, you're about the 4th person to ask to buy one hmmmmmm :) thats awesome though. Its a huge compliment. like I said, I'm making a mold, so it wouldnt be that much more effort to make more than one cast. I'm pretty sure if I sold them, George Lucas would feel some sort of disturbance in the force and send some people to come and take me away (for some reason, he seems pretty serious about his merchandising ;) ). I wasnt looking to make money off of it though. If people would just cover my cost of casting/painting/shipping, I'd be happy to send some out. Is that still copyright infringment?

well since it's a creation of your own BASED on an existing character i don't think copyrights are involved. but just to be sure you could contact George/ his company. who knows, they might even want to buy one too 3+))

Jive Turkey,
If you send me a list of supplies/materials you need to cast one for me and paint it, I will purchase them, or send the money. I would seriously love to have one of them if you are serious that you'd make one and send it. You can mail me at mlrosier@yahoo.com. I look forward to seeing more of your work. It's truly astounding! And it's not copyright infringement if it's your own original design, which this is, as I've never seen an infantile yoda in any of the Star Wars movies.

Artastic, thanks for the interest man :) I'll tell ya what, I'll cast one and paint it and stuff and keep track of the supplies that I've used. I'll post a pic and if you like it, I'll make you one. We can figure out the money thing later. I dont want to make any money, just wanna cover the cost. It would make the most sense if I got the supplies because it would save on a shipping cost....I'll let ya know though. As soon as I can get my hands on some silicone...

LudaChris, I dont remember exactly how many pounds I used. I did it over about about a 6 month period....ummm, I think maybe 5 boxes, how ever many pounds they are each. I'm still really new to this, so I'm sure I'm not quite as efficient with my sculpy as some of the other guys are

Paul - Thanks man. I actually like the transluscent look of the plain sculpy too, but it just wouldnt be Yoda if it wasnt green :)
DrugstoreCowgirl - Thanks for the compliments :) honestly though, if you were there watching me, you would've been bored out of your tree. I'm painfully amateurish with my sculpting skills. A whole lot of trial and error
