After seeing the craptacular shot of Thomas Jane as the Punisher, I thought I'd do this concept for a 'movie' Punisher.
Very simple concept with the Punisher wearing a standard SWAT, bulletproof vest with groin guard. The skull is supposed to be just painted on.
I plan on doing a concept where the skull is molded and the vest is more like Blade's vest from the movie--lots of panels and buckles.

well this is much better than the salvation army outfit they threw on thomas jane
he looks too young--and too pretty--Punishers a friggin brick whos been threw some crazy shit--give him a broken nose and make him look more conditioned.
i like the vest idea--and the gun is hot

they made a punisher movie a couple of years ago (guessing 1992 ) with Dolph Lundgren (he's swedish :) and crap) as the punisher. Anyone seen it?
I even thought it sucked when I watched it the first time as a much younger man with less defined taste as I have today...bla, bla
Watch it if you can....but I think it still sucks.
I agree with the young look on your pun'. Go for gritty, and worn look instead. Unless your movie is a prequel, "Punisherboy", ;) ?!

Like the way the skull design is painted on the carthrige holders.

This is well painted and a nice re-imagining, but I think I agree with the others. He looks too tired and perhaps not tough enough. You can have him be that build and shape but look a bit meaner, or a bit more "wheathered".

Actually, I think it looks cooler if he's using conventional equiptment thats hand-painted, than if he has some crazy custom-molded bullet-proof vest. Thats what's always puzzled me about the batman movies (joel Schumacher's especially). isn't it enough that this guy can really kick ass? Does he have to be a fashion designer as well? So I say, go the road you're going down. Go even further by looking through more military equipment books and finding obscure, cool little details that can be added to improve the overall effect. Night-vision goggles? Also, see if you casn add more interest to the equiptment he already has. For instance, some size and shape variation on those ammo packs would definitely help, and the clothes he's wearing underneath are looking pretty bland. How about a pattern of seams or strap-on knee and shin guards. You might also consider coming up with a more dynamic configuration for his equipment as well. THis could be as simple as setting the gun and knife holsters at an angle. Just remember that, for the most part, symmetry is boooooring! Lastly, this guy's face should be synonymous with impending death. I gotta echo the criticism of tyboogie and everyone else. Make his head blockier and well-defined think Rutger Hauer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc...
Oh yeah, one more thing...Don't crop this guy's legs off. Show the whle figure. Other than that its looking good...

I like Timothy Bradstreets version of the Punisher... He gives him more of that lone gunman feel..
Your rendition is nice though..It feels a little washed out and flat, but none the less its gets the point across..
here are a few of tim bradstreets..

See, I thought they were going for the Tim Bradstreet Punisher look for the Thomas Jane costume--and that did not work well for me at all.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, guys. This rendition does look like a bit of a lightweight. I wanted this concept to be wearing plain clothes under the vest, but yeah, it's not helping--it does look too boring. Maybe I'll give him the parachute pants Thomas Jane is wearing.
I'll work on some full figure designs, increase the detail and interest in the costume, and make him look older and tougher. I think I MAY explore some concepts that are more hi-tech, ala Blade, but I do like this direction.
[edit]
I KNEW I had a reason for making the Punisher look like a pretty boy. I originally intended this to be a costume concept for the Punisher movie with Thomas Jane. Rest assured, I'll go back and make amends.

Tim Bradstreets Punisher is awesome.
You've done a good job on your interpretation, except I agree he looks too young.
