Hey all
I was just wondering whether the forum tolerates political discussion in this forum or not?
I know that in SOME FORUMS political Discussions are out-right BANNED as they can, and more often than not, do end up getting heated, so I just thought I would do the forum mods the courtesy of asking 1st before I started a thread off.
Its no big deal or anything, and if it's a NO-NO then I totally 100% understand and we can all get on the with important stuff like talking about art and digital painting :teeth:
For me there is NOTHING more important than Art and 2d/3d Digital Art, except family obviously lol :) but every now and again, apart from reading a good book, I like to get my teeth into a good political discussion or two :)
BUT I know that [especially with today's political climate] politics and political discussion can and invariably does, lead to heated debates, and in the end out-right arguments or flaming wars in the worst case scenerios heh - so I thought I would ask 1st :)
So question posed ???

I think the more valid question is "what good are political discussions on the interent?"
There is far too much room to be misinterpreted, the anonymity gives opinions superhuman weight and veracity, and no one's political view has ever been affected by one (except to strengthen it, perhaps).
It's far better to do those in person.

Why would you want to start a political discussion here of all places?

A common rule of thumb in life. If you want to keep a family or friends, never ever talk about politics, or religion. Everything is subjective, and it wont get anywhere........HAPPY FACE

If you really think about it, it would be a waste of time. Every opinion expressed here would be a biased and retarded pile of shit except mine...

Jeri..
Maybe because this is the "Lounge" part of the forum were usually people discuss "anything-&-everything" BUT the websites main concept subject matter.
Every forum has a "Lounge" area or derivative off - and I [rather foolishly now it would seem]assumed that because this part of the forum was labelled,
" LOUNGE Post introductions, Talk with friends, ask general queries, anything goes!"
that I kinda figured it was ok - you know?
dogfood..
Yeah I can see your point there, kinda agree with it really, but when all is said and done, the internet is a great medium for debate and the "airing of ones views/opinions/ideas etc" so it is, in a weird sort of way, the perfect medium for political debate, because people can't get physical or in any way real world vindicitive.
And if people want to be false when entering a debate online, then that kinda defeats the whole point and they're doing nothing but wasting their own time.
2b boy..
heh I heard that :)
Ilaekae..
Funny that because I was thinking the EXACT same thing regarding my own views :teeth:

quoted for truth hehe
whatever ... i agree with dogfood to some extend... but id like to take it further (like 2b boy did)... political and religious arguments are useless... and to me it doenst only apply for online ones. everyone is entitled to his/her opinion and if theres something that aint going to change it, its an argument.
arguments are ego masturbation mostly.
im not contra any civilized argument ... sure why not, i might even add my 2 cents while im bored... but they are hardly going to change anything anyway.
its just about flexing your brain and rethorical skills.

Go search for the lounge posts circa 2004 during the Presidential Election. You'll see where political discussion got us.

Thats exactly why I asked 1st, just in case the site had had bad experiences in the past with political posts.
I mean jeeez I only asked ffs - it's not like I went ahead and posted a damned political thread is it?
I kinda thought it the right thing to do to ask 1st before posting, thought it was the decent thing to do me being new to the site and all.
But forget it...

Well they said no. They didn't swear, or insult you. Why are you complaining?
