Hmm.. it's a nice piece.
Here's a frew comments, though.

Make sure the bony parts look hard, and the fleshy parts look soft. It helps if you're familiar with the skull and muscles of the face.
How long did you spend on this? Are you familiar with the differences between form shadows and cast shadows?

i spent about 10 minutes on this. i know the principles of form shadow and cast shadow, but have yet to learn them in practice. i think i got the idea of the quote though.
