This is a pirate I'm designing. I'm slowly trying to break away from this cartoony style into the more realistic realm. Any advice?

hheheh :) it's quite obvious that you've defined your own style, I really like it... You can move on onto bigger things but dont you ever forget that cartoony style cause its fun to look at :) Good luck

Why thankyou pleX. This is actually my attempt to draw more realistic and leave the cartoony behind. I normally draw like this

I would really like to go to art school and learn how to draw all that cool anatomy that comic book artist use though. Whenever I start adding anatomy or drawing real eyes, it starts look'n real bad.

hmmm....

Do you think you have to learn drawing realistic?...or do you WANT to learn it because you want to draw realistic?...would this change your style? Do you want to change your style? What makes your style different? Do you have your style because you ever drawed like you wanted to?

Just a few questions...maybe it helps...

Go sign up to a community college they have LIFEDRAWING programs (most of em should), the only way yopu gonna be able to draw "comic" book anatomy or REALISM, best thing tyo study is anatomy, learn how muscles fold and bulge , learn what skins folds over what

Fozzy: I just draw how I want to draw. I'm a mechanical engineering major at UCSB, so cartooning is just my way to have fun:) . I don't want to draw photo quality realism, in fact I really don't like that type of art. I just want to be able to draw better. Right now I don't even know how to draw eyes. (by this I mean without a reference in every possible position). I wouldn't ever change my "style" , I don't think that is possible.

Doomskull: I think you are right. My figure drawing experience is somewhat limited. The place I want to get to is where I never have to use a reference. I think that if I do enough figure drawing, the human form will eventually just become natural.
