Hello all, one new matte painting. It was a proper job to begin with, but it got cut out, so I had to redo it... did another one. Enjoy this one for now.

Wow, excellent work. I think you've got just the right amount of detail without going overboard.

The lighting seems too consistent throughout, though. I'd expect to see darker shadows between the buildings, etc. Also, the 'grid' patterns on the front most two buildings stand out a bit too much--just tone those down.

looks good, it reminds me of "freedom force", the game, because of how close the buildings are together. heros jump from top to top

Seung Ho, looking really good! I'd say that Blackhand is right about the lighting. Also, I feel like it's just not *quite* distressed enough. I'd expect some dark streaks beneath the windows from rain run-off (even if it's super-subtle), I think maybe it's just a little too tight, too crisp.

Of course, you do have some brilliant touches, light the broken shades on the bottom, and the laundry out to dry.

Reminds me of a friend's work (http://www.bertmonroy.com/fineart/text/fineart1.htm)...

Nice!

yeah, so i just checked you website  how did you get to be so amazingly good at such a young age? in my opinion, your work rivals fengs already.. .did you used to draw like 10 hours a day? either way, awesome pic you have on here.. .i really have no idea how you can capture things so realistically.. .its amazing. i would love to see more of your marker and pen concept art. ...and definitely some more character designs (the ones on your website are really cool). sorry i dont have any suggestions, im still a little awe struck. incredible work man, keep posting

Beautiful work Henrik! You're gonna make John Wallin jealous again ;] Did this one start as a skydome 3d radiosity render or something? Because the soft, neutral lighting has that sort of 3d render look to it. Otherwise amazingly realistic!

I am amazed at this kind of painting, I have no concept of how such a thing is done. I lack both the patience and steadiness of hand for this kind of work, but I respect it highly.

Amazing. I cannot critique it for I do not understand it, but I find it to be good.

Thanks all,

It looks a bit "dull" because that's what the shot required, no lighting, no dramatic atmoshpere or anything. Just plain dull...

I started out with a rough 3D layout in Maya. (Credit to me for setting up the scene, lighting it and render it in less than a day). This was to give me a perspective layout I felt comfortable to work with. When doing things like this, scale is crucial to get correct. There are no short cuts to this, the only thing you can do is to render a few things perfect, these are among other things: Perspective needs to be accurate, edges need to read as edges, window sizes, scaling of brick need to be consistent etc.

I do agree with the scene being just a little bit clean.

3D scene I worked on top of:

Hi, one new matte painting done for Siemens Xelibri, a new telephone. The plane was painted in Photoshop, using a rough 3D render as a base for perspective.
Note: This is the finished matte painting (with the woman in yellow cut out and put ontop of the mp, to give it some appeal as a still.). It's NOT the finished comped shot, so later we added a lot more dancing girls, second passes of waves in the water, exchanging faces and people all over the place. Enjoy.

sick, they actually plan the whole thing around someone being able to pull of that kind of drawing....Totally amazing, canīt understand it all (sorry for the "I praise"-post but I just had to say something :) )

Okay, this is just... too good for words. Are they both paintings, or is one a reference? I hate to gripe about such a perfect piece of work, but it just seems TOO realistic. I mean, I really don't think the average human being would even realize that this isn't a hpotograph, even under scrutinizing observation.

Well, whatever, its perfect.
