Wow Kierston I really like the first one. Especially how the first wash shows through in the texture of your creature. Though, His right knee seems to be positioned kind of wierd in relation to where the foot is placed.

rubygenesis: nice work! way to make the effort. you've definitely got a good idea of this technique, try next time to get darker with the initial ink wash. sometimes i'll wait 10-15 minutes and apply another wash just to tome it down more. that way the colored pencil and gouache really pop...killing people: great work on the sketchpages(btw, gouache on canvas-BAD) gouache is not really as flexible as oils or acrylics,so when appled to canvas it can crack in time. not in a good way, though. rudecorleone: nice try el pasoan! try not to apply too much of any one thing, and use a bigger (way bigger) brush for your ink block in. rule of thumb: use a bigger brush than you think you need to. it will allow you to work much faster and will add spontanuity and deftness to your brushwork. i'm very flattered that you guys have actually been putting in the time to learn this. i guess it means that i dont suck as bad as i thought i did...

These are the only colors of the inks i could find in central AZ... expensive too. THis is my first time painting in about a year and a half so I know it sucks. I never leaned to mix paint. =( This bird is a test to see if I want it in another drawing im working on. its not original, I know...

Dang wes your the man!!! are you in college still like your website says?

Shit, Wes!

every time i see your work i get the urge to move all of my stuff into a cave,,, dynamite the entrance,, and do nothing but draw and paint until i become ripe and ready to pop.. at that point i would tunnle out so that i could give it back to the people.. :) you know,,, just like Miyamoto Musashi and Friedrich Nietzsche.. those crazy bastards came out of there caves with books and shit. id probably come out with a stack of Strathmore "acid free" sketch pads under my arm, and some really bogus B.O.

so if i went cave hunting tomorrow,, what do you think the likelyhood is that i would stumble apon you or el coro's cave?
you gots DSL up in that mug?

I was just noticing that a lot of Terese Nielsen's work looks like "el coro's". She uses an acrylic underpainting instead of the marker ink. Worth checking out for inspiration.

Here are my attempts. Didn't have the tools but the inspiration is still from justin's work. Some are better than others... but I guess you learn from them all. Hey Justin, do you know the best place to buy the marker refills in SF? I used a red marker on one and even though I waited it stilled turned the white prismacolor pink. It was an old school AD xylene marker with the delicious toxic smell... maybe it's best to avoid those? Has anyone tried using Nupastel?

rubygen: it looks like you are really having fun with el coro's way of render. hey! .. the first time ihave seen you get so solid.

rude: that looks great. i didnt realize what the offering was at first .. or that it was an offering. i find your decoritive way of value very interesting.

bonedog: wow great job, i like the first two the most. you have such bold contrast of values yet a soft transition of values describing form, you have an inate display of chiarocuro, like wes9000.

I've been messing with the Coro style with a couple of my sketches, and this is the best of the bunch...which isn't saying much...anyway...I couldn't find the Inks coro posted so I've been using Doc Martin Inks...is that a sutible substitute?

Hey Killin yeah I heard...we have that much in common now...lol anyway actualy the inks are working out fine...at least I think...I need more practice blending them and not making the colors so saturated. Doc Martin Inks are really good...I've used them before...they are a bit on the expenxisve side...about 3.50 per bottle...and the're tiny. I'm just not sure if Doc Martin Inks are good for the tech that Coro has shared with us.

heres another one... I really dont like this one, I had alot of trouble with the blending of the color pencils. I went dark first =( oops. Its a cover to a self promotion video game box. Something to send employers... The portfolio thing was painted on a seperate page in my sketchbook and put in with photoshop. No big whoop.
