Did the still life last night and the other page at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Can't decide if the pen sketch is any good or not. Any comments/suggestions?

bonedog - looks good to me - where's your problem?

Jester... well, the way to get better is to figure out what's wrong with your drawings. I can see some value/form problems with the middle beet, but I'm wondering what I don't see that can be improved. I'm glad you think it looks good, though... that's encouraging.
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I know what you mean - usually serious artists are always their own worst critics. I wish I had your grasp of volume and light yet, but I'm working on it - and one day I'll get there.
On second look on your still life: The skull and the radish (?) look really good to me, but the table is done very sloppishly compared to the rest and distracts perspectivewise.

I think your main problem would be the beets, the way the light reflects off the skull isn't consistent with the way the light reflects off of the beets. Work on core drawings and and reflected light on the plane the organic object sits on.
Basically, what I'm saying is that your skull says that there's direct light, but your beets don't.
