Im trying out a new coloring style involving layer effects for going over pencil works for now..The character idea is for an on field paramedic/surgeon in a sci fi setting, the other was a doodle in my sketchbook without much thought to it. Id like to hear what people think of the coloring style..I really dont know if its working or not. It involves layer effects, which I seldom ever use except for now. Feedback on this would be very much appreciated.

I don't know what special features layer effects do, but if you ask me if I think the style works with sci-fi themes, my answer is yes.

just a comment on the surgeon character alomg the form/function lines. I really don't see anything that would suggest that this is a medical character. The implements look more like weapons and I'm uncertain what the box is at the bottom. As well, although there is a suggestion you are going to add legs, right now I can't see how he is going to move.

I geuss what I'm trying to say is if you are designing a character to get the design down first, get the function. Then worry about the next steps.

Hope that helps,
Craig

The coloring looks good.
The guy with the large tounge looks cool.. I like how I can see his organs.. though I do not know the purpose of such a long tounge... does he strangle people with it? I would like to see in the drawing what he does with it.

The medical guy.. does he like shoot people while operating on others at the same time.. like to see this guy in action.

Hey, man! (I keep feeling like I should call you Don Brozzi and come in with a cannoli).

These are some pretty cool ideas, but in the first one, the forms aren't wrapping very well and the bell jar edge isn't really straight (making it look disjointed as it is covered). In fact, with the sketch, the bulgy curved edge made me think "hotdog".

Now, I think that a lot, anyway, but still...

They're also both being jipped in the skull department.
