I just recently, about 3 months ago, got really interested in drawing and want to become a good drawer.

I would like for people here to give some tips and advice on what I should think about and take into concideration.

My current work is really not much yet and is not worthy of being put online but I have plans on creating "a sketch book or two". I would really appreciate all kind of advice so that I can get started. As soon as I am confident enough about drawing freely, without looking at books and objects, I will start posting my work. Meaning, as soon as I can draw what I see in my head, I will create a sketchbook thread.

Thank you very much in advance.

If you are new to CA Then Welcome. It would help if you could post some of your work. You will get more help that way. Until then all I can give is general advice.

Draw often, as much as you can. Read through the tutorials and help already on this site. Get some art books particuarily on anatomy and perspective.

I hope this helps. Drawing is a very difficult but rewarding thing. Don't give up too easily.

Don't be ashamed of your art man, scan what you got and post it. That's probably the best advice I can give you. A sketchbook is a great tool for learning since you can get crits from your peers and you get some pressure to produce work regularly. So if you wanna improve I suggest you start one now, as in right away and not after you gotten better. There's no shame in relying on reference either from books or from life when you're drawing, it's what we all do and altho your imaginative drawing is bound to improve with time you'll never get away from needing ref. Just start an SB, post your shit and let people crit it. Best way to improve.

Figure drawing is your friend, someone said to me once you master the human form, you can draw anything else.

Thank You very much for all the advice, I will try to start on a sketchbook as soon as possible.

Also, I will post my pics as soon as I have bought a scanner.

Thank you once again for the advice, and hoping for more...

Hi, there I am also a absolute beginner, but I love to draw, and i want to improve it defenitly.

So why not open a topic where all absolute beginners can post their works like in a class.

Because I know the problem, I also don't want to fill this great forum with my beginner drawings, but maybe in a topic with people at the same skill level it is much easier to post ones works, like in a class. Maybe it has a solidarity effect, to see "I am not the only one here, who draws like he has never drawn before" (thats the case with me)... ... well I learned already a bit by reading and looking in this forum...

(And it is also easier for the other people to comment and for us to find comments, if there is a central topic about advises for beginners).

At this point I have to say I love this forum, because there are all the time so much new and so imegative things... that is exactly what I needed to express my fantasy ... well but until now i just visited this forum, but never dared to post something, as such an beginner... but I already learned a lot, in the last year, by reading and looking at drawings, thanks!!!

Welcome to CA Nsae Comp. That is a good idea. There used to be something like that but I don't think it's around anymore.
I would happily help any who want to learn. I also have a long way to go but as Richard Bach said in the book Illusions "you teach best that which you most need to learn".

I will help any who wants it.

go to the sketchbook section and start yourself a sketchbook. Keep it updated regularly and it will stay up towards the top, and others will comment on it.

Infinitu: Always good to have helpful people around.

Tex: Thanks for the advice on regular updating.

I am also a starting artist!
The only things I can draw now are cubes. So I defenetly need improvements!
We could open a topic together and stimulate each other and may be get help from others!
Maybe you have some other idea's for it.
we could also have topics of 1 week like "week 13: week of the perspective" and things like that.. Just a thought though

Thats a good idea Kei-th. It's similar to Nsea Comps idea. There used to be a thing called the middle class that worked like that.

If you want I could set up a thread for you and try and keep it organized and help you by giving advice and topics etc.

I wish someone had or even still would do the same for me. So I would like to be able to help others.
