Hey guys, not sure if this is the best place to post this question but here goes...
I just started messing around with Maya 4.5. It seems there is a problem with the manipulators though. They don't appear or aren't working the way they should. For example, the "scale manipulator" only doesn things in proportion. I can't grab an individual x y z axis handle. It seems to be set where it only scales in proportion. Also, the "rotate manipulator" tool rotates objects fine, but the manipulator seems to be invisible. I've tried reseting the tools but nothing has helped yet.
Anyways, any help will be greatly appreciated!

I also sometimes have probs - the manipulators for rotate get all messed up and appear as a wiry bunch of triangles.

It appears that you may be using the scale tool with an axis constrained or something. are the coordinates for the tools set to 'world' correctly ? (Modify/Transformations/Scale [] )

Can't really help you further :-/ maybe try cgtalk.com it has a maya forum or try the 3d area over here

Thanks for the reply. Actually I just discovered something. It seems the manipulators are in fact there, it's just that they are GIGANTIC! They do not fit on the screen. For example the "move tool" has the red green and blue lines for selecting those individual movements, but the ends of the manipulators go way off the page, they seem to go on forever. When I shrink down an object with the "scale manipulator" the manip squares show up, but only when the object is tiny, and they are never selectable. How the heck did the manipulators get so big? :bash:
If anyone can help, please feel free.

Well, I got it working now;)
I had to uninstall it, manually remove its entries from the regestry, and now it works. Now I hope I don't screw it up again...

its actually quite simple, you just go into preferences > display > manipulators

you have many controls there to determine your manipulator settings.

also, make sure to file > save preferences once you've gotten your desired settings.

Nevermind! I'm a retard. :D
It was under window>settings/preferences>preferences>and then under display manipulators.
Thanks for the help.
