Published writer with connections seeking a talented manga artist to collaborate on a project proposal. This is a self-contained graphic novel in the tradition of Miyazaki's Nausicaa (but that's where any similarity ends).

I plan on pitching to the usual suspects like Tokyopop, Viz, etc. But also to some indy companies that may be looking to enter the manga field, and a new well-financed manga publisher that is actively seeking original projects (and with whom I have contact).

For the right artist (someone talented, mature, reliable, and committed) this will mean sharing ownership in the property and of course royalties from any future merchandising or film.

Let's face it, comics are a very tough market to crack, but the upside if you do is a helluvalot better than wasting your time doing dead-end commissions and pin-ups with nothing to really call your own.

So take a chance. We're only talking a commitment of 8-10 pages and a few color pieces to put together a killer proposal. After that I'll do all the legwork and you'll only be called upon to draw the book once a publishing deal is secured.

Even if nothing develops from traditional avenues, webcomics and self-publishing are definite options (do you have any clue about the popularity of something like Megatokyo? Hint: Massive!).

Still looking.

If you are not serious about seeing a proposal to completion, don't bother. If you are unable to finish a mere 8-pages of sequential artwork (real manga-ka often do 30-70 pages a month!) then don't bother. You'll probably never achieve much in the art world. Ditto if you lack maturity.

But if you're committed to creating something great, something lasting, something that will help you establish a career in comics, then by all means send an email with links to your online portfolio (or scans of your work).

My standards are high (because publisher's standards are high) but I'll look at anything from someone dedicated. And after that I'm incredibly easy to work with. Thanks!
