I was looking at a painting today, well a print of a painting, and it came in a large wooden frame. The frame was a rich glossy black and completely flat. It seemed like the print was laid right on top of the frame and there was a thin glaze covering both. They seemed to be at the same level and it was quite interesting. There was no way to remove the print or anything, it really just seemed like it was made into the frame.

Does anyone know what kind of framing this is? I've been searching for it online but haven't been able to find a name for this kind of thing. Any help would be appreciated. The frame itself was about 3.5' by 5'.

What you describe doesn't sound like a frame at all. It sounds like someone mounted a print to a board or some other material and laquered over the whole thing.

I'd have to see a photo of what you're talking about to give you any more than that.

yeah, framing is not always needed these days. It's cool when you see somebody incorporate their framing into the actual artwork
