...But it's my best at this point in time.

In any case, I'm wondering why under my name it says: "Assistant Artist." It should be something more akin to: "Need Assistance Artist." I've seen a lot better artist listed as n00b or something.

Here are some sketches I've done. I'd really appreciate crits, and specific areas that I should work at. Critiques such as: Work on anatomy, or practice aren't too helpfull. I'm working on both.

Your stuff is very abstract and difficult to critique. The more an artist knows/understands the more he can show someone. it's like a language, Right now you are learning to speak but cannot yet speak the language. You are going to get the kind of answers you are talking about that arent very detailed, because there is not enough info.

Your female nudes are great, but the rest is just pieces and sections, to me most of it looks like modern art and Modern art is subjective from viewer to viewer. So how can someone critique it, except with answers like "I like the way the colors work here and the shapes are placed here" or vice versa or work on your anatomy. There is no way of telling you that you are doing it right or wrong at this point.

I dig the Chix and the mech, great mix of colors on that piece. Not trying to rip you, just want you to understand that you will not get the kind of descriptive answers you seek this early on. You just have to keep drawing and posting, then things fall into place.

I do do things such as life studies, but this is what I enjoy doing. What I think I'm hearing is that I should more or less abandon this "style" of pseudo-modern art and work towards constant realism?

In any case, why is this considered modern art? I always though of modern art as being VERY abstract, pollock inspired peices.

I agree that it's hard to critique some of the pieces because of their style. The nudes do look very good and it seems you have a pretty decent grasp on anatomy. I personally dig your color selections and lines. I also like the very loose style you've got in these.

Don't abandon this style - work with it. I think the key is that you'll show abstract stuff to most people (even those who are 'art aware' and they'll be tempted to say 'that's not art'. But, if you show them that you can actually draw/paint/sculpt realism but choose to do abstract then they'll say 'man, what an awesome style that Mondrian cat has'. Go figure, though I see the point. Look at the evolution of some famous abstract pieces like Guernica and one of those tree ones from Mondrian (forgetting my art history here and can't find it on the web). The skills you develop as a 'traditional' artist are usually recognizable even when you go abstract. You can tell a Kandinsky from a copy if you know what I mean.

BTW, I'm in Vancouver WA too :) Just moved up from CA a couple of weeks ago. Loving it so far. :D
Cheers,
M

Man dont abandon what you like doing that is what you like, stick to your guns.

to add to this modern art cannot be deeply critiqued because it is subjective to the viewer, I happen to like modern art and a few of your pieces are quite nice. But it is not somthing that someone can easily give a critique on. Which you want.

Is it art...yes. When it comes to modern art it is pretty black and white, yes and no kind of art. as the audience i can only say i like/don't like the color and texture and shapes, but because it is the artists outlook or own point of view can you honestly tell him/her how to do it better? NO

Dont ever quit!
