Have fun with it, something far less structured then the last two organised topics, come up with a cool story for it, anything related to the title "cradle of life"

nice, I'm in. I'm still mad I missed the last one. But I'm happy with my IDofW, so I'll just make more of an effort to do both this time.

i am going to start doing these...expect an environment from me soon!

ok so a quick brain storm before I go to sleep. If I find the time, I'm thinking:

A crib
A flower
A pit, crater, or some ruined ground
A ray of light
Graffiti
Abandoned buildings, broken fences
"God Lives"
pipes
barbed wire
rain clouds

The vision exists, now to render. (Argh, the hard part).

artiphats the "cradle of life" is generally accepted as the spot of homosapiens genesis, the oldest peoples ;) where life started.

Red Rook, thanks for letting me know. My idea was basically an environment where there is destruction and vandalism all around. In the center of this chaos are the remains of a crib, where a beam of light is shining out of the clouds and at that very spot a flower grows. If the topic has to revolve around the Homo-Sapien idea, maybe my take on it could be the same but I could substitute the flower for something else relating to a people starting new in the aftermath.

My first thought when I saw the topic was in fact some genesis, garden of eden enviro, but then I really thought that I would like to take the concept somewhere else. Genesis is about a beginning, it is my belief that Homo-Sapiens are the result of the evolution AND genetic mixing of beings both less than and greater than ourselves. Think "Homo-Erectus" + "The Gods".

Not trying to start any long religious conversation here, but if I do go in the direction I have stated (again losing the flower), will I be totally off? I mean, Genesis / Cradle of life does not have to mean a beginning from nothing, or a very first time. I'm thinking more, "new-beginning", emerging again new out of destruction.

Any thoughts are welcome as I am still in sketching stage anyway.

No no, i was just making sure you knew what the reference was commonly too ;) your free to do whatever you like :)

I was thinking of primordial goo...myself.... life as in life rather than life as in Humans. I guess we are all going in different directions...could be a fountain of youth kinda thing too... or even a treasure. exciting to see the different ideas forming

I understand theres a refernce here to LaraCroft..I dunno. one to be avoided I guess

Chaos Rocks......and then there is Life?

ah, ok, then back to my flower idea I go, lol. Thanks again Red_Rook.

Chaosrocks... primordial goo you say, I like it already!

uhh the tomb raider movies just nabbed a popular idea, lets be creative and not make a reference to em ;) But its a good example, i mean its a very liberal interpretation of it. You guys might wanna remember its an environment :P just keep that in mind. and build something neat around it Also the cradle of life is generally thought to be a place in africa, the origin of species :) so i can imagine some weird deep african jungle where the most primitive ancient life forms still rule in some isolated river basin or something, or some ancient ruins of some culture that existed looong before any mesopotamians, atleast those where my first ideas :)

chaosrocks
March 20th, 2006, 05:53 PM
ah more of a cradle of Humanity, or cradle of civilization..... I thought of hotsprings and blorping mud amoebas and stuff..lots of mist and fog accompanied by torrential rain and early morning volcanos ,,wish I had time to do this but Im off to NYC tomorrow early

I only brought up tomb raider so we could reject it....
I like the post-apocalyptic direction....cradle of life is a bomb shelter....
anxious to see what emerges :P

Here's mine.. I just went with the first thing that popped into my head, cause your guys' posts were confusing...

I picture it as a sacred place in some small world where the Gods first created Man (in a fantasy/mythological setting).

I think i'm the first person in EoW to use lines in a submission :E

This ended up being more of an expirement with Barontieri's brushes, and a fun speed paint to try and put some style into my vision more than anything else. Here goes.

http://www.houseofscion.com/artwork/speed-mono-web3.jpg

The world couldn't sustain the fallout in the aftermath of a 4th world war. Mankind, never reaching its technology cap, has all but destroyed itself. Only the small percentage of people who were able to get deep underground survived, and only in the last decade have any of them started to surface again, with hopes to rebuild. In the middle of what was once a warzone, and before that a crouded city, are the remains of a nursery. Sun rays piercing dark clouds shine on a flower that somehow has managed to grow. To those who see it, it represents the beginning of a new world. It has been decided that this is the spot civilization will rebuild from.

QUESTION: this is the first thing that came to mind, since I went with a more mythological take on this. is this too much Character and not enuff environment? I am perfectly willing to go back to the drawing board. this is a rough wc ..should I finish this one or regroup?

thanks
