I'm new to this forum, and have recently gotten back into drawing and painting, after a 10 year artist block. No kidding, I haven't drawn or done anything worthwhile since 1996.
So here's one of my first...Be gentle...
Also, I apologize in advance for their size, but I wanted to be able to show all of the detail.
With this piece, I've taken a digital photograph and painted over it in Photoshop...

Hmm... well, I don't think you're doing yourself any favors by doing a paintover. It's not exercising any of the most important muscles. With so much time off, you really have the chance to start over and really go about learning to draw with some sound, proven methods. The tutorial section has a lot of good advice and just by cruising the forums and looking to advice given to other artists, you can glean a lot of good information.
This kind of thing really doesn't tell us much about your skill, so it's really tough to crit.
Oh, and there's really no need to have them this large.

i agree with the guy in the can of dogfood...start from scratch and be honest with yourself re your current level :)
also, i understand your desire to show the details, but the result is that nobody can see the big picture ( ho-hum!)
keep it up!

dogfood - You're right, after I finish the paint over (it's for a friend), I will start working from scratch. I'm going to look at the tutorial section as well. One thing that I really enjoyed was seeing some of the Event files for Open Canvas. They really help with figuring some techniques out. And they're just cool to watch. I looked at your sketchbook, and your work is great. My goal is to get a job working in a studio like yourself. Recently lost my job, so I'm looking to start over, and do something I enjoy this time around. Thank you for the critique.
squidmonk3j - Thank you for your input as well. I looked at your sketchbook, and I was impressed. Such talent on these boards, and it gives such inspiration. Thank you.
