The old one is too image-heavy, and wont load properly so I'm going to start another sketch thread starting with some newer stuffs
Im very much afraid I dont have any good environments to show in my portfolio, so Ive been practicing some. Let me know if theres somthing you like/hate and why, or if you have any advice please feel free to give it, -Thanks!

Wooo! First post!
As "simple" as this one is, enviroweb3.jpg, it stopped me in my tracks. Great feel of form and lighting.
This one too, sexyshortsweb.jpg, great lighting and feeling for the character :D Makes me smile.
If I had to critique anything, perhaps I think some of the softer brushstrokes, sometimes used in what looks like a soft light layer, clash a little bit with your nice and messy brushstrokes, if you know what I mean.
Hey, promise and actually update your sketchbook more frequently this time yeah?!

Idiot Apathy- thanks for the support. I wish I had work I was more proud of to show on a daily basis, mabey Ill have more time for that for a bit now:
first off, heres a colab between me, Mr.Blonde and Mouver from Eatpoo:
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~carbeu20/new/co--lab.jpg
the colors in these are thanks to Mr.Blonde too who showed me an interesting new way to use multiply layers:

Yeah seriously, I've been starving for more over here (Eww, no pun intended!).
I think your as close as it gets to mixed media with digital haha, you've got lots of interesting new techniques and ideas everytime it seems.
I really like the girl with the bear, a fun feeling from it. The warm tones on 430.jpg are great too. I like how expressive yet simple your faces are, kudos!
What are these concepts on the last page for?

Idiot Apathy- everything I post here is mostly just for the sake of experimentation. I guess the thumbails were done with the theme of flight in mind.

I know what you mean - pretty much everything I do is for the sake of experimentation.
Great batch here! The warm and cool mix of "aircity" colors is the type that stops me in my tracks - really great. Good mix of edges too.
I can't see the second one too well - maybe my monitor is out of whack.
Great character feel to the girl with the fish - and the one below it. Warm ambience - I need to work with that some more.
Nice to see more traditional work from you too - painting has a nice I think, I think perhaps I would like to see the streched a bit more to sort of match the vibe I feel from the surroundings, assuming you weren't going for a figure study of course :) Just seems perhaps starkly calm(?)
Can't wait for more!

I love these enviroments, and the way you paint, man, so loose, and free in colours. How do you make such simple pictures come to life. I think you are really gonna go somewhere with this style, just dont try and conform to traditional art styles, when you continue your studies. Keep it you.

Hurricane & sybo- thanks for the encouragement!

Sweet your updating sort of frequently! A figure study eh? Couldn't resist having fun with it though could you?
Good comps and color as always - Just so you know I've been a little inspired by some of the "digital" techniques you've been doing, started messing around a little more with things I had avoided in fear that they wouldn't help me with traditional mediums.
Cheers dude !

WOw! what a unique style, really! *drools* I love the loosness of all your cg's, it doesent look too loose, which can be a bad thing. My two favorites are the girl in the green shirt, just because that one's different. and then the one of the cliff with the torn object jutting off the side of it, It looks as if it a plane or something crashed into the side of it. Or like its some kind of machine thats no longer functional..but anywho, your style's one of my favorites that ive seen so far, since i havent been here long. Im subscribing, have a great day m8! :D

Apathy- Hey man, Glad I inspired you! In the end, learning how to draft and understanding the way light hits things will help you no matter how you aproach it. (Im a hypocrite though, I dont pay attention to these things)
Chain- THanks for telling me what you like! I'm sure youll discover much more uber artists here the more you hang around.

I had an idea I have yet to try so far, but I think you might like it too. Are you familiar with ArtRage? Really cool and free art program that has some really nice "paintstrokes". Reminds me a little bit of when you use the smudge at 100. Anyways, the idea is to do little finishing touches and strokes in artrage after you've just about finished something in PS.
Cheers dude!

Interesting stuff, man! Great color sense. I see flashes of Ashley Wood in here, where you use larger shapes of color. Your picture making ability is pretty noice, so I'd say try working on your anatomy a bit. Do you do any more traditional figure studies? Not that I think your work would benefit from having prefectly proportioned figures, but the more you know the more crazier you can go. Really cool stuff here.

Andy- Im glad you see flashes of Ashley Wood and not blatant copying of his themes and styles! Yeah, I do plenty of figure drawing, but I think I do too much direct copying of the model and not enough analysis while I draw. It would definetly help me to know more practical anatomy.
Mr.Blonde- thanks, I tried some of that life painting
Idiot Apathy- Thanks. Yeah, I still find the smudge tool 1 step faster than picking and selecting, plus it gives a nice circular volume to the form you're constructing.
Elnady: Thanks, I will!

Hmm, I keep thinking I've replied to things ... but actually haven't - curious.
Your style has seeped a little bit into my brain by the way.
Good use of blurring on this girl in the chair. Loving the color palette, and expression as always.
Interesting use of an intense blue as the main lightsource on the next one, going to have to try something like that.

Beautiful experiementations. Some of your lighting studies are great. I love the girl in your first post, the first pic in #10 (of the windmill island in the clouds), the coloured town image in #18 and the profiles in #39.

Idiot Apathy- thanks! I included a traditional sketch in this one
John- thx
the first one is a study of one of Jon Fosters star wars paintings. I got his r/evolution book for x-mas and wanted to try doing a study where I actually had a plan.
heres the basic steps I took:
loose sketch
tone 70%
block in bg, even behind figures!
tone figures
block in figures
multiply glaze overs for more detail and focal points
flatten, more noodling
additive layer to equalize contrast, erase for darkness
color correct/overlay
so yeah, its far from perfect but I was happy I could try techniques Ive seen and actually have it vaguely resemble something.
another thing Ive been looking at recently is the way tiny elevations and shifts in a bumpy surface will catch highlights. I wonder if theres a particular word for this??
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~carbeu20/dec/fostercopy.jpg
this one was much simpler. just a life drawing, colored and multiplied for shadow. Ive been trying to block in color/value 1st recently, then add shadow, assuming everything is being hit by the same light.

"Winfred: What’s quality??"
Hmmm...Quality is the thoughtful adherence to the elements/ principles of design
color
value
line
shape
space
form
texture
rhythm
harmony
symmetry
proportion
balance
contrast
movement...etc.
Using these to...
1. Come up with a thought/idea
2. Use theory that affectively meets that idea/thought
If your drawing/painting abilities are solely dependant upon the materials/programs used....then
1. your idea was vague to begin with
2. you are dependent upon materials/photoshop, painter, whatever to determine the form your ideas/concepts take.
It should be the other way around.
Form that coinsides with the idea are "usually"..."most of the time" the strongest

Thanks guys! heres some more. The 1st 3 are handed over to me from Matt. Most of the atmosphere is compliments of him, I'm mostly just responsible for the giant robots and phallic rocks.
the big monster guy is all me tho. that was pretty fun to do.
