This is a concept for an Unreal Character. I'm pretty inexperienced at drawing and rendering characters
so I was kind of figuring it out as I went along, which
is why it is sort of half cell shaded, half painted.

Here are the WIP shots so maybe you can get an
idea of my process. (all photoshop / wacom)

Feel free to crit this to death! I don't think I'm going
to do any more on it since I'm pretty burn't out on it atm,
but I'd really appreciate ideas of what I need to work
on for the next one. Thanks

It's hard to read the concept because you used different rendering styles. I think the 'cel-shaded' look is stronger, and I'd encourage you to go back and do the whole figure in that style.

I'd also lose that heavy, hard black shadow from the figure.

Your WIP shots are interesting--seems like there were huge jumps in the concept. The spikes look like sort of an afterthought as they don't really fit in with the rest of the design.

Hey,

I have to agree with blackhand on this one. Great image if you stay with the cell shading, the image would be much stronger in that style. Also, the left arm, seems to be lost in the image. Other than that, great pic man keep it up!

When I first saw him, the dark shadow confused his shape to the point where I was reading his chest to the left of where it actually is. I didnt have this problem after taking a closer look, and certainly not in the images without the shadow, but I think the piece is better off without that shadow. Also the shadow below his right foot looks strange.

Nice concept and nice drawing.

Thanks a lot folks, really good points there :)

I'm going to give it a couple of days 'distance' then go back and cell shade all of it. Actually that's good news, since the cell shading is sooo much quicker than painting ;) I'll try ditching the shadow or a make it a very light gray and fix the shadow cast around the foot, too. I'm going to darken the left hand to stand out and outline that area.

I agree about the spikes, Blackhand, I really like the way they stick out, but I don't think they fit the character at all.

thanks again :)

Love the concept and the picture... Again, just the left arm... It should be pointing more towards the viewer I think... That's what bugs me, doesn't seem a part of his body... That's my comment. Lov ethe gun BTW
