It's good, what bothers me is the angle of the face and the proportions or placement of head to elbow features,
try sketching the figure first then add the garments, also the left hand is kind of twisted.

both hands seem a little odd, the right hand looks sorta...flamboyuant. it should be more over the hilt of the sword i think. and the left looks mashed into his hip. also, maybe add more detail, just seems like thers some space across the chest that could be used to make the pic a little more interesting. and shading would help.

I like the concept of the character, but I would go do some studies on anatomy and see how everything works and come together. I would also try to give it some value. :D

hm samurais allways have their swords on their left side ^^

don't know if this is important for a Concept Art but its bugging me ... ^^

About the swords being on the other side, Does anyone know for a fact they have to be on a certain side? What if the person was left handed, like my guy..just some thought.

Samurai allways pull the sword with their right hand no matter if lefthanded or righthanded. The left hand is holding the sword at its end, the power of the cut the speed is led by the left hand the right hand gives the direction.

So when he's using his left hand to pull he's some kinda swords man but no samurai ^^

being left handed is considered disgraceful, so... chances are if they were left handed they would be a yojimbo, or a lone samurai. ur not even supposed to eat left handed with your chopsticks. Overall its a great character, especially his outfit. his chin is too close to his mouth, and his jaw line to his ear is just incorrect. look at yourself in the mirror or at a friend. great start, keep posting, you can learn alot from the people here!

hey man,

you've got good line work but my qualm with it (and i'm totally going into anal geek mode) is that i think you're getting your eastern cultures mixed up, the shirt you have on your samurai is that of a practitioner of kung fu. and i'd say to try something different with the hair too. but the sash thing you have on him is HOT! and i agree about the sword being on his right, samurai ALWAYS wear their sword on the left so that they can draw with their right hand, because only dirty fighters (like ninja) use their left.

sorry about the immense nitpicking, but keep it up.

siskol, now that you mention it, your right about the kung fu thing. thanks for pointing that out and the nitpicking, its what gets me better, hopefully :D . and thanks to those who knew about the sword being on left side

I redid some of the things on him, the biggest being his top outfit, i think it goes more toward the samurai image than the other one i had which was kung fu...and hey, hes got his swords on the left, woohoo.. anyways, crits and comments are welcomed as always
