hey all havent been that active on the board sooooo... just wonderin if anyone wants to get their battle on and redesign some character. I'm not choosing the subject because I want to see what people are in the mood to draw at the moment. I was hoping to redesign some video game character but its up to the majority to decide! I'm thinking one week for the time limit once the subject gets chosen

How about classic game characters like Link of Zelda, Sonic, the Mario Brother or maybe (that's my fav for now) Day of the Tentacle (everybody knows this game?)?

I'm sorry I dont know that game...and I kinda underestimated my workload so um I was thinking of starting this back up two weeks from now...

but this means we can wait for more challengers and ideas!...sorry

Cool, I think I might be in on this in two weeks time.
Maybe instead of a generic redesign of a character we could make the aim more specific such as a scifi redesign of Mario Bros or a steampunk one of Starfox or modern/realistic pacman or something.
I'd love to do something with Day of the Tentacle, or any other oldschool LucasArts adventure (FullThrottle,The Dig, Monkey Island etc) except i dont know how many people played those :)

Tomb Raider would be kinda fun, cause I think her character is generallly pretty boring and it would be fun how people could push themselves and still try and keep the mood of the character intact

Thats a pretty good idea, giving a fairly shallow/boring character design and reworking it while keeping the personality.
Tomb Raider, Duke Nukem and such would all be pretty interesting and challenging I think.

After seeing Marko's re-design of the X-Men and Nicolas' re-design of Shocker (a very cool underutilized Spider-Man villan) I was thinking of starting a weekly challenge to redesign Spider-Man foes. However, I didn't do it because I got caught up in trash talking, other challenges, and well...life; but if that intrests anybody I'd be willing in a couple of weeks to go that route.

Well, going back to the video game genre, I figured we can do a contest of the redesign of the characters of megaman. Or...we can re-design G.I.Joe characters....No matter what's the theme, I'm sure I'll be in on the contest....seems like fun.

i thought `bout entering this challenge, and started working on a megaman.
and after checking what`s going on in the thread, i`ve noticed
that i missed the whole "cyberpunk/ steampunk" part of the brief.
a real dumb thing on my part. :bashful:
and so my character concept is neither Steampunk nor Cyberpunk.
this is what i got so far, and i`m affraid i won`t have the time to start over.

This is my first Thunderdome entry. Sadly I've only a villain. I did a remake of Crash Man from Mega Man II. He was one of my favorites. I redesigned the crash bombs to be more crawly and symbiotic.

mecha hate chimp---> really like the design you've got going, though the uniform part you've got going seems more like g.i. uniform u.s. circa 1940's? very coool graphic design elements there and the mega steam thing cracked me up!

Mr. Visions - very cool man! great line work. can`t wait to see it done.

Hookswords - looks like a good start. the hands need some more work though,
and the design as a whole isn`t really saying cyberpunk or steampunk.

I0N - excellent. i like the 2nd piece better though.

noiion - that`s some mighty fine artwork. good job. only crit might be the face looks somewhat "postered" on the head area. maybe some more light and shade or more detail. dunno.

Mecha Hate Chimp - looks great. i like it alot. still there`s something about the eyes that bothers me; they`re not working too well, it gives him a silly face...

mr visions- that is niiiiiice! I always love clean linework and the design is great!

hooksword-yeah what chuck said but its not bad at all

noiion- yes nice looks good. the face needs better structure though. it kinda takes away from the whole piece since thats the first place most look and yet its probably the least refined

mecha hate chimp- thats almost exactly what I pictured when I thought of the subject matter! nice!

chuck mate + guggenmanuver- thanks alot guys I've been getting extremely mixed reactions on that second piece. I'm still on the fence on wether I like it ir not.

Chuck, mate: I really like the colors and details on him. My only problem is with the legs. There seemed an issue of where they should be placed.

Mecha Hate Chimp: Great layout and I actually love the unsure/confused look on his face. Though, he looks more like a painter with a spraygun or a special detail cleaner more than a Megaman. With the canister on his back, he doesn't look as manuverable as in the game.

Ion: I actually liked the Megaman design more than the villain. They are definately steam punky. The articulation on the villian just looked awkward to me, though.


Hookswords: That Flashman looks is also really nice. Simple yet interesting.

Mr. Vision: What can I say. Awesome design! I really love the details. If you would have colored it you might have spanked us all.

Thanks for the extension Ion. Gives me time to do some finishing touches. As for the villian, I probably won't have time. I got to get ready to get my butt handed to me on that 3CH competition. I can't figure out how to design a tripod without making it look too obscene yet.:P
