ConceptartCohesion #001: 8th Day

Storyline:

The year 2446 CE.

Mankind and its technology have advanced at an exponential rate, however trivial political, religious and social demands have caused the splintering of former superpowers into smaller nation states, pitting themselves against each in a number of minor conflicts.

Since 2395 a minimum of 27 conflicts, hostile incursions and border disputes have been raging in various confined areas across the planets surface, sparking a new global economy.
Covenants of major corporations have banded together in various factions and are now the true international players, feeding the ever increasing demand of new weapons technology.
The change in style of warfare has rendered weapons of mass destruction virtually useless increasing an appetite for more unconventional weapon systems, specifically the VidaNova Corporations newest developments in the field of creating new species of animals bred for specific purposes.

The idea behind this new move is too harness the animals natural intelligence, sensory abilities, and ability to traverse difficult terrain. They are currently working on models for civilian implementation, ranging from beasts of burden for remote areas to leisure models as pets. However there have been worrying reports of certain products escaping from captivity, and having unexpected effects on the flora and fauna they interact with, conspiracy theorists place blame on a huge range of subjects, ranging from the Cytarabinoside used in manipulating metabolic pathways in the animals, to mother earth resting control back from humanity to satan himself.
Some minor political and religious groups are already rallying, trying to bring this series of unnerving events to the public eye, wild rumors and conspiracy theories are already calling this the 8th day of creation.

Had to go with Hideyoshi, very clean and it actually looks like it works! Goran was a close 2nd.

Voted for Hideyoshi, awesome perspective. Why isn't the voting public?

prolly so we don't get retarded votes.

Well, maybe it was accidental, I think public voting goes for all the weeklies.

I voted for Goran, I really like the way he set up the cut-away, and I think the design goes really well with the topic. Hideyoshi yours is great, but I think a design for this topic benefits from having some organic element. Thats just my opinion of course. Setmonkey I like your design as much as Hideyoshi's, I would have liked to seen it rendered out more and also, as with Hideyoshi's, maybe it could have used some other organic element. That's just what I visualize from the topic, of course everyone will have their own ideas.

Speaking of what I visualize, I would appreciate any feedback on my entry even if it doesnt get votes. As a matter of fact please comment on it especially if it doesnt get votes. Should it have more detail, are the colors too saturated? I am really trying to improve, and improving is the main reason I enter these things. So don't hesitate to be harsh. Thanks guys! Great entries this round.

Hideyoshi and Goran are my favoured two; two different styles but in the end Goran gets my vote as while Hideyoshi's layout is more defined, Goran has a more rounded product on offer...
It is a tough call either way.

at 8:24pm EST USA, i can't see Hideyoshi's final -- here or in the posting thread. i mention the time since it seems others have seen it not long ago. hmm, direct linking doesn't work either, maybe his server's down.

Hideyoshi got my vote. I really liked the angle and color style. I also very much enjoyed Setmonke's. It reminds me of some of the old concept sketches from Empire Strikes Back. Like designs for the Hoth stuff. That is a concept art book that was a big part of my inspiration as a youth.

my vote went to set monkey, very nice. would have liked to see it a little bigger perhaps, maybe more expanded with more value changes.

hideyoshi, couldnt view your design.

rob-bot, thought that you really had something at the conceptual stage, a lot got lost in your color piece. think if you would have stuck closer to, or developed your original idea a little more and maybe rendered it in greyscale, or even black and white, you would have had a more succesful design.

good work everyone.

Hideyoshi got my vote. Even though I can't see it, I recall it's full awesomeness from when I looked yesterday.

Goran got my vote, mainly becouse his level of detail and great use of colors. Great job. Also yAdam very nice concept.

i voted for bRØk3n_sPiRiT not because his was the best executed (i like the drawings much better than the painting), but because it was the only one that to me addressed the issue of mass production in an intelligible way. if goran or hideyoshi had shown some indication that their concepts were one module in a vast array of similar units, i'd have gone with either, but they seem like one-of-a-kinds, and therefore too slow for mass production of bio-engineered consumer items.

Hideyoshi got my vote! I really like his render style. And maybe others are right because of the non mass production but still...

Goran and setmonkey your entry's were great also!

Rob-ot I like to see you experimenting with new techniques but you would have had a beter change for this if you tried it with markers imho. But we are all here to learn so maybe your way was beter :)

casec11 sad you didn't really rendered it and that you kept to 2 2d images..

artiphats lot's of bright colors may be to bright.. also does the thing stands on those 2 litle pilars? because I don't think that's really posible..

Good stuff all round! I was torn between set monkey and hideyoshi. Both seemed similar in style and design, although yoshi's looked finished and the general presentation was nicer.

Flatliner, cheers for the vote! I didn't think it would be taken to poll, 'cause it was only a wip..

Hideyoshi and setmonkey... amazing renderings. Well done. Rob-Ot, I think yours is interesting too (I like that it's not a revolved form, and that it implies that there might be more going on behind)..

..but I had to go with Goran's!

His organic goopy stuff is awesome, and really implies that some messed up genetic experimentation is going on. The painting sets a mood and is also well rendered. The only thing (and it's small) is that I wish your call-outs had more organization to them? Maybe the lines could all be the same angle (45 degrees or something?) Other than that... awesome concept and rendering!

eventhough Hideyoshi had the best execution and one of best designs all around, i went with rob-ot. I really LOVE the design. it reminds me of Giger's use of the male and female reproductive organs in his artwork. maybe i'm just a perve.

rob-ot, your design would make for a great illustration if you ever choose to finish it off.

I voted for Goran- wonderfully designed and thought through. I felt that it met the specification the best.

Some fantastic ideas here from everyone, great work.

I got caught up at work so never got to ad more to it.

I went with setmonkeys version...because it matched mother machines description with mamouthsize and awe inspiring.

Hidoy- nice rendering

I liked everyones concepts. Good to see at least 10 entrys

Hideyoshi got my vote - with set monkey coming in close second.

I really like everybodies concepts, but since industrial design was the focus - I have to say hideyoshi's and setmonkey's renderings looks the most industrial design like to me, with that I had to go with Hideyoshi over setmonkey because of the techincal challenge of setting up a rendering like he did!

Also thanks for all the kind words on my concept - I can't wait to participate in the next round!

AmishCommy - thanks man, you are right on about the male/female reproductive reference.... you should have seen some of the thumbnails that never got posted!!

Had to go with Br0ken's on this one. A lot of them are really well done, but I just felt like his had a great atmosphere while also fitting the categorization of a "mother" machine well. I really liked Goran, and the whole design was fantastic, but when I thought about it from the ratio that the actual person sees, (what you would see if it were in a game or anything,) I feel like it wasn't doing the design much justice.

I pretty much liked them all, my vote went to Hide. Style, perspective and layout all combined well.

I liked the lifelike material in Gorans and I liked the size and complexity of set monkey.

i found casec11's idea the most interesting conceptualy because of its ample explanation describing the workings of the mothermachine

I like ToxicDustbunny, setmonkey and yAdam's designs. yAdam's was very organic kind of reminded me of the queen from Aliens. ToxicDustbunny's design I really liked, it seemed like it would work byy just the way it looked, but it also seemed to small. So that leaves setmonkey, it had a very nice design and it had that massive size.

my vote went to rob-ot, for some reason its really creepy and it takes me back to the jehova room in final fantasy 7... cant beat an image that takes you somewhere. Hideyoshi, great rendering.
