Here are some of the sketches that I have in my computer right now, but i will begin scanning in more once i get the time. Some of these are quite old but I gotta start a sketch thread because I am just beginning in illustration. Right now am an Industrial Designer but very quickly becoming infatuated in illustration and entertainment design in particular.... Please critique away and there will be more to come shortly!

Welcome aboard,

Gotta say that I really enjoy your enviroments a lot; they're slightly bland, but I think you're off to a great start with them. Your creatures, I think, are a little too cartoony; your observational drawings are good, and if you incorporate a bit more reality into your concept creatures, I think it'll really pay off.

Keep it up!

Good to have you here :yayca:

Seems that your strength is with vehicle design. You also are good with proportions (your city sketches). I agree with Undefeated about your creature designs. I'm lookin' forward too seeing more.

if i would have to think of a crit it would be that for those environment thumbnails, you could push a little more value difference in there. create a bit more interest by adding a bit more contrast. this will also help with atmospheric perspective.
eg, you might want to keep the black lines out of the things that are totally in the back. if you do that with marker only it will recede much further backwards, instead of come forward.

nice sketches though,

keep it up man

Nice portrets there. Do more of those, they are really cool.

I agree with the creatures. You would be surprised how knowing and understanding human/animal anatomy will improve your creature work. Knowing how a hind leg is built or how a paw bends will open another world to you. Anyway great vehicles and faces you have there. Look forward to more!

Undefeated: The environments are very plain and very much resemble the ones that feng zhu demo's in his dvd's, which I watched and just decided to try out. But for right now I am going to continue on figures and master the art of observation with living things before i move onto environments... Once it gets warm out though Im gonna go all around detroit(the safer parts ha) and draw the city from all perspectives, until then its whatever i can get on my computer screen.

Seansea: Same as I said to undefeated, i learned the science behind drawing these vehicles and love drawing em but Im gonna concentrate on the figure for now, drawing hardware has always kinda been my thing so i wanna try something new, thanks for the encouraging words though...

Chichigo and tensai: Good call on the higher contrast, i noticed it especially when rendering the minotaur thing. He didnt quite fit in with the contrast of the background, and the tiger guy i just threw some color on him to give him a lil life before i presented him...the environments I usually do it all in a 10% first so perhaps i will leave the background cityscape a light tone and see how it looks...thanks for the advice

There will be much more to come soon, though right now I am at my parents place for the week so a scanner is unavailable. But once i return there will be a pile of sketches to scan in (i hope) so be ready, and thank u for the advice. I will continue with the observational studies of people and animals, time to grab the victoria's secret catalog eh?!

Ok, i have been doing gestures for a while, and did the last figure studies to brushen up on proportions. Now its time to work on the face, something i have always struggled at. I want to commit this to memory, so this is phase one. I am using bridgman once again. I feel like this stuff is helping me a ton!! Atleast in my understanding of the planes upon the face, i now see them when i look at someones face. Cool!

prepare urselves for an onslaught of these lil buggers. 10 pages or so to be exact. I am going to be up all night doing these so some responses or critiques on them would be great. My focus, is one man open/closed cockpit flying vehicle. Yeah i know, its really vague, and most of them probably arent feasible, but stick em in star wars and bing bang boom. I could keep pumping these out forever i think...after htis next page im going to focus on some meant for use in a forested area. Thats gonna be real fun! gosh im a nerd.

check em out. by the way, these are all sketcehs obviously, i have to render one up marker/pastel style, yeah ID style, bleh its for id anyways. But, i will show yall taht one after i turn it in cuz my scanner is aka the destroyer of paper larger then 8.5x11. tada

Here is my most recent ID project, had a week to do it. Spent bout 6 hours total. goin out in the field doing research, lots of sketches but only used the ones i liked, and doin some photoshopping. Would have liked to do a 3d model of this but didnt feel like it was applicable. this was the fastest i have ever done a project...I didnt procastinate it was just the assignment, it was fun doing it this fast though i must say. keep practicing your hatching. it gets too distracting at times. especially on the last one. also when its all in one direction it tends to flatten the image. try to emphasize form a bit more.

drawin my roommate aaron, trying to be more subtle with the hatching. the scanner sucks poop though so none of the mid and lower tones are even on there. Tried fixing it in photoshop but my scanner wont even pick the linework up.

Nice foot, and your ID stuff is rad!

I've always had trouble with hatching, myself, and lately I've taken to grabbing half an hour or so whenever I'm otherwise unengaged and practicing different techniques on primitive forms or even alone in panels. Seems to me that you're pushing yourself in the right direction, though; just keep changing your approach until you find a few methods that feel comfortable. Cross-hatching on the forms that turn away could really pop your latest faces, for example.

this is a painting that will eventually be turned into a gameboard... There are bridges, tightropes, zipcords, ropes...etc...that will connect the treehouses in different ways. Imagine it being like chutes and ladders, but more 3 dimensional in movement. By the way, no reference was used...just a sketch i did and my dome piece for knowledge thus far. Please critique.

hmm...some more progress on the one above, and i started my next one. A "good vs evil" painting persay. Im really excited for it, but i just started so any critiques would be appreciated. By the way i know the composition is divided down the middle, its because it is part of a very large symmetrical presentation i am doing, and this is the center piece. It should actually be called "evil vs good" because the left side is EVIL!!! Muahahaha.

Hey! Liking your drawthrough-style vehicles, you've got those down for sure. And quite excited to see your finished model of that walker - the funny thing is, I had the intention of doing this very thing last week. Sketching up a spaceship while at uni, the ran down to the workshop to do a mockup. Sadly, the workshop was closed...oh, well. Good luck to you!

Nice update, good to see you're back at it.

Just wanted to quickly comment on your return, and tell you that I especially liked that environment sketch (no. 5 from bottom)! Render? Hint, hint.

Nice dude! Your work is very professional. My favorite thing is the Rhinoceroses. See you at school hopefully.
