i decided to redesign the cyber demon from my favorite classic, Doom 2..

i thought id post it here for some feedback before i submit it to the finished section.

incase i didnt spell it out clear enough, his lower jaw spreads apart kinda like the predator. it will make more sense when i post the sketches.

Awesome. Your rendering skills are bad-ass. The head and jaw and horns...YEAH!!!!

Great job!

HOLY CRAP IN A HAT! I SURRENDER!

I like the more goat/dog-like features of the head in your concept. The detachable mandibles get a bit confusing only because you've got the other horn down there as well--it looks like there might be two jaws on that side. I'd add a bit of drool for effect as well.

The striations on the muscles are really nice--gives the concept a totally ripped and scary as hell look. The left arm looks a bit too short, though, and I'd like to see a scarier looking hand as opposed to the more humanoid looking one.

Man, this is the stuff of nightmare.

Oh dear lord... I'm glad I took my t-dome time to do lighting/colouring/shading/shape studies. This is amazing and even if the jaw doesn't look right to you(looks fine to me) It wouldn't matter what its function was, because it would look like a nice effect either way ;)

WIP of this and how you did it would be amazing. Maybe in tutorial section?

damn lono thats sick dude---
pretty scary too---love the face and mouth

the wires from his gun kinda dissapear into a netherworld visually

his separated open mouth was a little hard to read at first
prob cus you got the horns--2 jaws and shoulder all in the same little area--but it reads

maybe adding some more form and volume to the farthest spreading jaw? not sure--good shit tho---ty

OOPS! I JUST CRAPPED MY PANTS!!!!

That looks really great dude!!!!!

I love those damn sexy legs!!!

The mouth thing did end up kind of confusing. There's sort of a weird tangent going on with the background jaw and the shadow on his shoulder. It may be easier to read if you got rid of the shadow all together, made the background jaw one solid color, or added some faint details to the background jaw in the same way you handled the background horn on the top of his head.

I also think the wire on his back needs a stronger highlight or possibly a darker outline.

Then again...it could just be Dad's jacked-up monitor:rolleyes: :)

Reguardless this rocks, and YOU rock!

Fantastic work Lono! Great volume, great rendering, great job!
Love the horns and streched skin and veins. Now you might probably want to think about where you want your focus to be if you don't want the viewer's eye to go all over the place. Maybe also play more with warm and cool colors. His oblique could maybe recede a little more (a darker value).
One thing that doesn't seem to fit is his left hand: what about some claws so that his hand doesn't look quite so "normal".
Again, I love this piece (good call on the repetition of the hoof shape) and that right biceps looks very powerful.

The top-down-ish perspective makes him look less imposing than he could be.

well I guess this is what you mean by being ownzered. this has got to be that toughest thing I have ever seen. I'll go ahead and post my weak ass piece in the dome and take my beating like a man. You rock and this owns.

In case you were wondering BROM (yes the one and only) made the original cover for the game, so now you can go around and tell that you are better then him..

it is streaching it a bit, but it might get you some costumers....

That is truly a disgustingly good rendering, Lono. A suggestion, my eye has a hard time spending time looking at his face, which I think it should :) Maybe if you crop some of the right space and extended the canvas to the left, it would be easier to focus on his face, which is the highlight of the piece? Might wanna give it a try. Either way, I look forward to congratulating you on the victory! :chug:

Very nice! I LOVE the texture job on the legs (and gun)...just *gorgeous.* ^_^ I'm less happy about the torso and human arm though. Even though the muscle texture is rendered beautifully, it seems like the underlying sketch may have had some issues. The bent-over pose looks akward--the right side needs to have a little slack/pudge, otherwise it just looks like the muscles are tight and he's short on that side. The human arm also looks stunted. :/

Overall it's a lovely piece though. Helluva better than the original. 9_9 Man I miss that game...best played at night with the speakers turned up. ^_^

thanks a lot guys, seriously. you are all way too kind. :)

you all brought up some good points. thats what i was looking for.
ill mess with it some more.
hmmm,, about the stubby arm,, i intended for it to appear to be coming slightly towards you so thats why it looks shorter that normal.. does that not read correctly? well fart.

thanks a lot for the crits guys/girls.. ill get back to work.

Lono, looks like you've nailed all the issues in your earlier painting. The split jaw reads a lot better, the revised hand looks more demonic, and the foreshortened arm even seems spot on now.

I think I liked the background treatment in the last version better, though. If I remember correctly, it was a lot darker. The good thing that can be said about the new background is that the lighting is more realistic.

Absolutely stunning, is it done in Painter? If so, that's pretty tight.

Though your lack of website makes ceenda cry... :(

3 things...

first, damn you I was gonna do the fuckin cyber deamon too!
now ill be a copycat!

Second, the metal on the legs is beautiful, but they are pretty stubby looking compaired to his torso.

third, your pic is ehffing badass!

yeh thats awsome. nice take on the subject the rendering is superb but id go with the fact its hard to rest on the demons head and the right leg seems a bit small to me.

Minor niggles though this rocks
