Its about a hgihly evolved tank that becomes self aware, and splits. I think it falls in love with the girl driving it, and gets chased by the police/military thats all i know... Its from te eightys i think

I think you're talking about Roujin-Z (same director and writer as AKIRA)... But it didn't fall in love with the girl, it had the soul of the old man's wife... It's a really fun movie to watch!...
