So I've graduated college not to long ago and I'm looking to get my name out there and one of the best ways to do that is to have a website. But where to begin? Out of all the ways of getting a website going what's the best way to go, and how much am I looking to spend. Please help with some info.

Well, Deviant Art (http://www.deviantart.com) is good. So is Photobucket (http://photobucket.com) for hosting raw images.

Both Deviant Art and Photobucket don't allow hotlinking though, and if you post your images on forums linking from those sites, they will end up being red X's
Sorry Mike, but Photobucket allows it. Every image I post here is hosted on a photobucket account, and I've never had a problem with it.
But for what you're looking for, Siko_X, you'll want to avoid both those sites. To get your work out there you'll need to be professional about it, and using a free public site kinda sends the message that you're not serious about your work enough to invest even your own money in it. I get the impression you knew this already, but it's worth clarifying
I hear you can buy a decent domain name and host it for as little as $10 a month, but I'm no authority on which domain service is the best to use. Hopefully someone else can answer that for you.

ImageShack.us is helpful if you just want to show single images for forums or eMail.
DeviantART.com is cool if you want people to see a gallery of your art and to get critiques, if you're lucky. Give them the link to DeviantART instead of trying to show it on another website.
As for Domain names, you can host your website on your own computer, if you want to set it up that way. I've ALWAYS used free hosting. People haven't paid me for my artwork, so why should I pay for my website? :P
GoDaddy.com has been suggested as the low-cost solution to Domain Names. I'm currently using xRoad.com and I may have to look into GoDaddy tomorrow as my Domains need to be renewed shortly.
Free Domain Hosting has become increasingly hard to find if you promote yourself as a business and don't want advertising banners. I'm currently using SiteSled.com and looking for another alternative for a backup Domain Host.

Thanks a lot everybody. I've been using Image shack to host some fan artwork on web forums and such, but as plate said I'm looking to be taken seriously as an artist so I need to take the next step and have my own website. /i looked into yahoo since they're my ISP but I didn't feal that I was getting a good deal for the amount of money they wanted, 10 bucks a month for like 500 megs. So I wanted to see what else was out there. I'll check godaddy.com and the others. Thank you

www.dreamhost.com.
8 bucks a month, 20gbs of space, 1 tb of transfer, all sorts of other goodies. It's beautiful.
ive had my site there for 2 years and it has only gone down something like a grand total of .... 6 hours during that MASSIVE LA power outage last year. They're speedy and nice guys too. Every once and while they double your webspace and transfer for free... which is always a pleasant suprise to check my account and realize I've got so much more goodies.
and if you reference my site (www.30lives.com) as a referral, I get like 10 bucks credited toward my account. That's like a free month of hosting for meeeeeeee!

oh, dreamhost will register your domain name for you for FREE, as long as you keep your site with them. not a huuuuge issue, but that is like 25-30 bucks a year, you know?

I reckon the profiles here at CA should be good for a start.

RealWeHost (http://www.realwebhost.net/)
I've been with them for several years and they are absolutely great. Their prices are affordable and my site is working 99% of the time (I think it was down once either last year or the year before that, I'm not sure, but it was fixed right away). What's especially awesome about them is that if you do have a problem or just want to ask questions, they answer almost immediately and resolve everything fast. There were times when I seriously wondered if I'm the only customer they have, because their customer support is just that great!:bounce:

I can back dreamhost also they are really good and they are really easy to get some more complicated web features going . I used them for 2 years now . You also can beat 1TB transfer . Some of the bigger web comics which get massive traffic are hosted by them .

If you have an internet connection, you might already own webspace. Check on your ISP home page or somewhere about the details of your connection and whether it came with free webspace and how to use it.

If you are looking for a place to show your work then you should check out http://www.artopium.com (http://www.artopium.com)
************
Artopium (http://www.artopium.com) is a place for "unsigned" & "unknown" Artists, of all kinds, to display and sell their works, without having to give up artistic control or lose more than half of their money to "someone" promoting it. After all, the Art should always remain true to the Artist and the Artist should benefit more than anyone from the sell of his or her works!
I would like to encourage you to share this post/link with anyone that is an Artist that may like to distribute their work OR with anyone that you know that may like to buy some "New" Artist Art (music, photography, painting, fashion etc...). Artist Signup Is Free & Easy (http://www.artopium.com/my_artopium.html)!
************
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!

Thanks again for all the feedback. This is probably going to take a while for me to research and compare prices and services with all these options. But that's great I love options. Another thing I'd like to ask is if anyone here built there own website, learned html, javascript or whatever or if any of you hired someone to do it for you.

Siko, if you would like, i have a butt load of server space, and would be happy to host for you. I could try to help you out with HTML, i use dreamweaver for the most part, and i stink at that (My current website justifies this (http://r3fracted.net/death.html). But since i got some awesome crits, i'll be redesigning it soon. Again. Anyway, let me know, i can give you FTP access, and all that jazz, and i'll try to help out :D.

dont pay someone to do it for you..best way to learn it is to just tear in there and start messing around.

Siko_X, I'm a painter and faced the same dilemma few years ago. First I decided to start learning programming and design but I found it too hard and I would waste a lot of time. That's why I decided to go with some free website builder. I tried first geocities.yahoo.com but their customer support was awful. Then a few months ago I went with sitekreator.com and can say they I am pleased with them so far. I made my site and then submitted it to the search engines. I can definitely say I get a lot of contacts, and customers from this site! If you want check it out: www.sitekreator.com/myart.
