A lot has changed. The first major change was those huge PNG images I posted, now they are JPEG which will give you a much quicker load time. The second change is the huge collection I just uploaded, I hope you like them! The third is the title and this starting post, I felt the title didn't attract and that pastel piece was under-rated.

I am hoping to get enough attention to keep wanting to show you my pictures :D

I'm a little disappointed with the attention I recieved with my Anatomy studies so i will post the better ones here.

Keep those studies coming, =) The improvement will come in leaps and bounds. Youre still having a bit of problems with the facial proportions and placement of the features, but two thumbs up to that skull study you just posted. Keep it up!

Thanks. these were older studies, but I still have problems with proportions when copying.

Your doing some good studies. And the rendering is nice.
About the proportions, make a very simple first sketch of it. At that point adjust the lines. Don't jump too soon on the rendering.
Anway, keep going on them, until you dont need the book anymore. :)

interesting stuff, what are you copying from? this reminds me i need to start moving the pencil in different directions to define shape when shading... thanks, heh

All these are from Burne Hogarths books. I'm alittle worried that his style is too 'personal', as in I am teaching myself more of his style than the actual anatomy. I do draw from 'Anatomy for the artist' too.

Examples from my studies:

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/4140/anatomyhead022006364au.jpg

I am currently memorizing how the foream is constructed and will post my results when I get my PC fixed.

I like the first skull u made, it looks very realistic. And i think u are on the right way, just do more of those studies. Untill u can draw them with your eyes shut :) Cheers.

I cannot STOP sketching anatomy now! It seems I'm possessed. In college I have a B5 sketchpad where I sketch my studies of facial proportions, bones of the skull and other areas... I seem to sketch while waiting for websites to load :S I can personally see that I am memorizing it all though, however slow it may be.

Thanks for the comments. Until i get my PC fixed I will contue showing the studies I did in the Anatomy topic.

P.S. The skull took me like 2 or 3 hours to do because of my beginner mistakes :S like I didnt sketch it all out fast at the beginning, i just rendered it all and then saw all the mistakes and rubbed parts out to correct others, was frustrating. But now I am starting to see how to sketch things out quick before applying the lines.

I see some things I think I recognize. Do you have any of Burnes' books. Your studies look good. It is good that you are working from the bones up. I should do more of that.

man, i get so excited when i see anatomy studies. I love and hate doing them myself. as for hogarth, well, i think you're right about his 'style', but as long as you're aware that his stuff has that style, you should be okay, just keep aware of that while you're drawing. i think that he tends to exagerate (sp?) anatomy a little bit, which is not a bad thing because there are some very subtle things in the human body and sometimes it takes that exageration to notice them. just be aware. overall though, good work, and please keep it up!

Hi, though I'd check out your Sketchbook. I've got a copy of Hogarth to hand most of the time as I really need to gen up on muscle relationships and movement so I don't have to reference so much, he does have such a strong style though. One other book I bought to balance this out with something more natural is Figure Drawing by Anthony Ryder.

Good stuff, really like the bone work.

Thanks for the replies and comments. Sorry for the slacking, my major project is rolling past (three week to go) and I have been rather busy with it. I have about 7 A3 pages to show of Burne Hogarth studies. I might also have some older studies in my folder that i didnt scan in but are relatively new.

I could also show some of my college work once the heat dies down.

I am going on a little vacation on the 29th so i will be dishing out some seaside sketches/paintings. And also some public sketches.

See you then and hope you will like my new stuff when it comes.

Here is one of the many studies I did today. At the weekend I will try to post the past few weeks studies.

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/3706/legcrouched1505065ee.jpg

Its in a rough state due to it being just a study, I sometimes wip out fully rendered stuff too, which you will see when I scan them in.

This one I did today, it was done with Pastel Pencils on a textured smooth pice of paper. The image is from Burne Hogarths collection.

Like I said previously, I will post 'a lot' at the weekend. i promise :)

Just finished this one. Made this more study layout than the other two. Even names, but if you see any mistakes in the names please say so. I spotted the Latissimus Dorsi, Externus Oblique, and Gluteus Medius confusion.

Sorry for the lack of updates here. I might update more often now!

Also I think I see why this topic has had a lack of attention, FILE FORMAT! It appears I was stupid to save in PNG! Okay mistake learned, I will go over each PMG and change it to JPEG. Sorry for the internet crashes to those that tried viewing my topic! :D

dude anatomy is coming along fine, the more you do it the more fragments stick into your head. Btw what course are you doing in college?
What I think would improve your drawing the most would be lifedrawing classes. It will improve your drawing skill, your anatomy+ drawing from life makes you improve most.
I agree with what other people are saying, hogarth's stuff is exaggerated, his legs in particular. Its like hes drawing from the toughest, musclyest man in the world and then "stylising it". Most people tell me to read Loomis, however as his books no longer are printed, the only source is from scans on the net.
this is heads http://www.fineart.sk/index.php?s=16&cat=14
and this is body http://www.fineart.sk/index.php?cat=12
and this is others- http://www.fineart.sk/index.php?cat=1
keep practicing, its coming along :)

I think his style is quite good to learn from, fo one thing it shows where muscles 'could' be, and then you just decide how strong you want your person to look. Its a great source to learn where the muscles show. Its difficult to get drawing classes where i live, but next year I might be able to.

Thanks for the comment.

Good anatomic works. Remember to express these exercises regularly in drawings from life.
