I was helping out with the Society's upcoming book and editorial annual exhibition. It should be a great show. Lots of sf/f mixed in with the mainstream stuff -- Jon Foster, Dan Dos Santos, Donato Giancola, Mark Zug, John Jude Palencar, Greg Manchess, Craig Mullins, Red Nose...If anyone is NY throughout March, it's worth a stop in.

Funny thing...About a dozen guys were on that project. I only know three of them, but they all HATED it. Apparently the art direction was so heavy handed that all the paintings looked exactly alike, and all of them were...well...much less than what the artist could do.

---

The cool thing about that Donato painting that Dan mentioned is that it's only half finished. Donato did the first half of the painting for a book cover for Tor with plans to make it much much larger for himself...he just hasn't gotten back to that other half yet. But it looks super cool unfinished! You'll be able to get a real close look at his working process.

donato does some serious paintings. He's like those old school painters that used to paint those massive murals. Could totally see him painting with Michaelangelo and the rest of the crew.

He just likes being hung above the stairway! :P

By the way...I messed up a little: the March show is Book & Editorial. (Not Advertising.) I just edited my initial post.

The Advertising section will be in April....In April we will also be exhibiting our SF/F minis. A wee show that I'll talk more about later, but in a nutshell, it will be a dozen 5x7 paintings by leading SF/F artists.

is Greg doing a few more small ones (other than the one with the Mammoths) for the Mini-Show?

If he does, it wont be for the show. We are just asking for one from each artist. He seemed to want to try another just for kicks -- I think a lot of the artists are getting having fun doing something so small -- but deadlines always seem to get in the way of play time.

a little birdie told me i can let slip this info about the SoI opening on Friday March 3rd. If you call up Terry or Kevin at the SoI and say you have 3 Hamiltons (BABY!!) you can score yourself a ticket for the opening. (they don't want this getting out becasue this opening gets really packed) Guests include Palencar, Donato, Dan Dossantos, Greg Manchess, Jon Foster, Gary Kelley, Peter De Seve, Mark Summers....and more.

It was great to see so many CAers at the opening last Friday....and I spotted a few in the galleries before the reception.

Anyone get shots of the reception?
