beginner Questions

Hello, My name is Frederic -from Belgium and i'm 23
First of all Sorry for my "broken written" English

I'm really happy that I Fond this place in my search for the next step
Currently I draw on paper but i want add some digital/art and effects to my drawings so I have a few questions for ya all :)

1. Do guys draw first on paper and scan it in and continue in a artprogram?
2. Or draw you immediately digital with a tablet?
2. I dont really know witch program to buy so I want some advice ;)
a. Corel Painter
b. Alias sketchbook pro
c. Photoshop
d. Something else, what?
3. When I buy a tablet where do i have to pay attention to?

Do how ever you like. At the beginning it's easier to go the paper-scan way because you need some time to get used to size and proportions on the screen. Most people don't have a tablet/screen but a normal tablet so your hand and the canvas are seperated. That's something that you have to get used to.


2. Or draw you immediately digital with a tablet?
See above. Can be done and it saves time by removing the "scanning" part.


2. I dont really know witch program to buy so I want some advice

c. Photoshop
d. Something else, what?
Use whatever you want.

Some tips:
- Painter: Tries to emulate analog media (pencil, brush, oil, watercolour,...)

- Sketchbook Pro: looks like it's more useful for drafting and sketching (It's in the name ;) )

-Photoshop: Powerful, versatile, can besued for painting and Photo manipulation, the brush tool can be used more "simple and direct" than painter because it doesn't really try to emulate traditional media.

- Something else: There are some free programms and all can be used. It just depends what tools you need for your work (I don't really have the links).


3. When I buy a tablet where do i have to pay attention to?
Most people buy a Wacom tablet. I would recommend a "Wacom Graphire". Get one of these. They are cheap and if you don't like how it works then you have not lost much money. They work great and for getting used to digital work it's enough. You can always keep it to take along with a notebook or as a back up if your main Wacom (Intuos or even Cintq if you have the money) at some point dies and you need to finish your work.
