I think its poor market strategy to make these slight upgrades to the product so quickly, because you either anger people who just bought the last one, or make people wait for the best one before the jump in and purchase one. Either way it just doesn't make since to me.

so it would seem, but Apple could probobly argue against that ----- it worked for the SP, and Nintendo's main concern now is reaching other audiences.... afterall an angry person who rebuys one, or a person that has waited to get the new one - it all boils down to 2 products sold.

i'm a product design , and when they come as sexy as this I can't pass it up :]
Lite is a nice step-up to PSP, and makes the modest original DS look like something an ape just slung

I can't help it, I still don't get the 2 screens. Seems pointless to me. I know they have a few somewhat creative ways to use it, but wouldn't a bigger screen or longer battery life be better then two screens. Maybe its just me...

I can't help it, I still don't get the 2 screens. Seems pointless to me. I know they have a few somewhat creative ways to use it, but wouldn't a bigger screen or longer battery life be better then two screens. Maybe its just me...

Some of the best examples of 2 screens have been the most modest creatively ----- it's so nice having full view of the map in Castlevania (and helped give way to a more complex castle), and a track layout of the races in MK (and think back, the origional Mario Kart was splitscreen)
but mostly it's for Nintendo to force a commitment -- if you have one large screen, no developer is going to split it up for a better layout of information - they'll use all the screenspace given.
Animal Crossing works nice because now you can see yourself while you change outfits/accesories

I guess the second screen is good for stuff that needs to be on a second screen, stuff you need to glance at frequently, but would be annoying to have on the play screen.

Personally I'd prefer something like a very small laptop with atleast 400*300 resolution.

DS lite looks nice though, even though I don't like the whole i* design thing. A NES skin would be ideal of course.

a retro-skin NES style would be sexy under the clear-accrylic layer ---- also the inside of the lite is that unfinished matte texture like the NES pads of yore, so a NES style decal would be ideal....
I'll give 'em 1.5 years before a retro lite makes it to stores...

I hadn't really been planning on upgrading my SP. When I went from my original GBA to my SP my usage increased dramatically due to portability, so I knew that, dispite how cool the DS was, I wouldn't want to carry that bulky thing around in my pocket. But the new DS Lite looks hot. I'm definately gonna have to upgrade. Plus I'm in need of a new range of games, heh.

Well, really we knew it was comming didn't we? It really is like Prometheus said an i-design sort of phenomenon... I think it looks rad personally and is exactly why I didn't buy the original DS model from the get go, I knew a newer sleeker DS was right around the corner. Shit it had to be with that crusty monkey slung turd like design... I don't know could Nintendo have hurried with the original DS disign to be released closer with the PSP? Thats just a thought.
