Here is a demo from one of my classes that I turned into a tutorial. It is a very controlled way of painting in oils that is meant to break everything down into a step so as to simplify the process.

some of the cheek structure feels a bit off in the final, i think the angle of the shadow that separates the left cheek from the eye socket is too horizontal.. that threw off the entire eye structure, making him look a little cross-eyed.. good info, it was a nice read

YES! This is great! I just started oil painting using monocromatic values, so this tutorial will prove to be very helpful.

man im loving this class right now. even tho im a complete noob to painting. anyways to clarify a bit for Erik, the painting was done from life, not from the photo. the burnt umber pick out was done 1 week (same day the picture of the model was shot) and the actually painting with color was done another week.

Main Loop-Thanks for the crit, I wasn't terribly happy with the painting myself, but it served its purpose.
Idiot Apathy-your welcome
thebluepuppy-You would be more than welcome
patdzon- good luck
Pixeldragoon- the cool thing about acrylics, and I suppose you could do it with oils as well, is you can just glaze the color on. It would be similar to what Alex Ross does with gouache
|NTeRN- Thanks Mat
-j- cool!
talmir- Giving thought to a figure drawing book actually, though it will be a while
DSillustration- Thanks Dan, let me know how it goes.
