The latest issue of Drawing has an article about some recently unearthed George Bridgeman drawings. They are on massive 4' x 10' sheets with dozens of drawings done for in-class demos. Really beautiful stuff. Looks like it's right out of his life drawing books. It's amazing to think he drew these using a piece of charcoal at the end of a stick!

The article also goes into some history about the artist but not too much. Didn't know he was Canadian or that he studied under Jean-Leon Gerome and Gustave Boulanger in France. The rest of the magazine is pretty good as well. Fans of Bridgeman might want to pick this one (http://myamericanartist.com/americanartist/drawing/index.jsp) up.

I think I may have seen a video of a lecture of his the other day. Very interesting stuff, the way he combines medical and artistic anatomy. And I'm in awe that he could draw with that bloody stick!!

No, I don't think that was Bridgeman. He died in 1943(?). I think the person you saw was Robert Beverly Hale. Another well-known anatomy teacher. We used to watch those lecture videos in class. Very informative but Hale, in my opinion, wasn't the draftsman Bridgeman was. Though Hale's knowledge of the body is amazing.
