I just found out about this (http://www.darfurisdying.com/). It's a competition to create a game to educate people about the Darfur conflict. Two of them are flash, the other two are downloads. It's a neat idea that'll hopefully raise awareness.

I'm pretty sure it takes more than $50K to fund a non-shitty game.

P.S. What the hell is a "darfur"?

i wouldn't be so quick to say that

Apart from programmers' wages, i don't see where else you spend money if you do everything digitally.

all it takes is some dedicated souls with skill at their disposal. When you have people with a belief in their cause, it will compensate lower than typical wages. There has certainly been underfunded success and achievement before, why not again?

and I also know jack about modern videogames, so... whatever (I love you, NES)

A region in Sudan (Africa). There's been genocide going on there for a few years now, and no one over here seems to be doing much.

yes, it takes a lot more than 50k. The average cost for a portable game for a DS or PSP is around 250-500k and those are just portable games. If you want something for a console or computer, you're looking in the millions.
