A piece I just finished for an RPG book. I'm happy with it for the most part, but I had a hell of a time doing the lighting on it. Here is the synopsis and feel free to give me your own opinions.
This character is endowed with the ability to harness fire from the Negative plane. Anti-Fire, I guess. Anyway, the description called for purple and black flames. Since black doesn't really"light" up too well:D , I used purple. Anyway, Since it is anti-flames, there wouldn't really be a lot of light coming from the flames, but It just didn't look right without a glow to it.
After racking my brain, I said screw it and put the purple light around it.
Critics take note, I used a difference cloud filter on the background (sorry!), but those glares are NOT lens flares!!! They are gradients set to "screen". I HATE LENS FLARES!
Anyway, rip away. I'm ready.

neat concept and design, but the flames are bugging me. maybe they aren't "flame-ish" enough, could be the lineart in it.

i agree with jnorish.. to me the flames look like ripped cloth.. i imagine that glowing flames would detract from the pic itself.. so.. hmm.. dunno :]

but nice concept regardless
