GIVEN CONCEPT:

CC Huge Dog Endboss:

We need an endboss creature for a jump 'n run game. The creature should be based on a dog as we are entering the chinese year of the dog in 2006. The dog should be huge as endbosses are inclined to do so. The dog needs a special weapon, with which it can inflict high damage on the player char (eg laser eyes, fire breath etc). You are free in terms of style, make it fierce like castlevania-style or funny like in mario64-style...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
masque:
concept: Big Dumbass Puppy (BDP) Boss Sequence:
1) You enter the level and are confronted with the brain-chilling apparition of BDP! He's been waiting for you all day long! He's missed you so much! He can't wait to frolic all over you! Suddenly...
2) The Leap of Love! This sudden and nearly always overwhelming melee attack crushes you 98.6% of the time. If you manage to avoid it (megadodge = A+B+C+XYZ^2), you are faced with...
3) The Tectonic Tail-Thump! BDP is passive, but his happily wagging rear appendage creates such tremors you struggle to keep your footing. Fall, and you die, victim of...
4) Affection Armageddon! Viscous slime, one drop of which can drown you! Horrendously toxic exhalations guaranteed to gag a maggot! A gooey meaty slab that threatens to suffocate you with every lick! Quick, get up (B+C+A+ZXY*3)! Use the...
5) Nose Hit Defense (A)! Your only weapon is a rolled-up newspaper, and it must be deployed with pin-point accuracy! Only a smack on the schnoz will quell BDP's enthhusiasm! But watch out, he has one last sneak attack...
6) The Puddle of Burning Death! Even in defeat, BDP can be a deadly nemesis. Only a quadruple somersault ninja jump (AAA+XXX+BBB+C+[L]+face north standing on one leg) can get you out of the way of this corrosive flood!
Otherwise...
GAME OVER (do wish to try again?)

Brand_X:
concept: Mummified Martian War Hound
Although its masters have long since returned to the red dust from whence they came this imposing sentinel still prowls the Martian halls guarding against intruders.
Heavily armored and undead this beast shrugs off all but the most devastating physical attacks.
Inset: Special attack, Voiceless Howell.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
MIKECORRIERO:
concept: Borgola
End Boss, found in the icy prison from which it was banned, the giant Borgola has been awoken in the present day. This creature was once breed and used to protect a valuable item of great power created by the Chinese. In ancient china Borgola was the god of destruction, an enormous ice bound breed of dog. He was fed on demand enormous portions every day and kept in the freezing conditions which turned its fury coat into an icy shield. Once there was no longer use for it after the ancient wars had ended and the item of power buried and hidden for eternity, the great Borgola was chained and sealed in the caves found in the north.
End Boss attack: The Borgola's breath is near 450 degrees below 0' capable of freezing its enemies and smashing them to pieces. It's slippery dwellings make it hard to stay on your feet and dodge the giants massive claws and destructive blows. As your jumping and ducking you need to figure out how to melt the ice in certain locations so that you can sink the Borgola and trap it in the water for enough time to allow it to freeze. The Borgola also chucks large blocks of ice your way so be ready to move quick. Its eye sight is poor though due to the fact that they are completely frozen solid, so use this to your advantage, hide behind ice mounds, and in some cases these happen to be frozen warriors who's fate left them to be trophies filling the long caverns of the great beast warding off any who dare to enter its domain.

Jonoy:
concept: Naioglar
After the Unknown Heroes have managed to protect the village of Hammerhurst from the invading goblin hordes and their cruel overlord Gload, they follow the hordes trail into the deserts of Samalune and the doorstep of the mountain fortress of Ogakan'keth, home of the Moagul'kai. Once they have defeated the myriad of necrominic nomads, destitute desert dingoes and maligned mennacingly monsterous Moagul'kai, the Unknown Heroes are faced with the final barrier (or so they think! predictable plot twist) between the Fortress' Lord; Belligerent, brutal Benny the bastard and their persuit of the Gro'Tpecnoc's Ruby-red-rod of radical reversal;
the Nasty, nefarious Naioglar.
This heavily armoured, armed and highly aggitated caninus giganticus had been bread by the barely bearable boney-backed giants of the desert as a guard for their magnificently massive mounds of gold and gems though through constant feeding of tidbits by the Moagul'kai it soon turned on its former masters and became the favoured pet of Belligerent, brutal Benny the Bastard.
special attacks include;
Chase the tail A devastating whirlwind of steel and spittle.
Down boy! Belligerent forward paw attack.
Bone Breath/Dogfood Flatulate A Cloud of nautious gas, stunning the unprepared player/s.
Shake-it-to-pieces End-move that sends bloody chunks flying all about.
Play Dead Doggy plays dead at 90% health loss (hopefully) fooling the player/s out of their hard earned $ by jumping into a special move combo as they goto move on;
Rollover & Cock leg Doggy rolls over the player/s before cocking his leg and unleashing a final devastating blast that consumes its remaining health.

concept: Hound of the Ancients
Description: The old myths of Quavi tell us of this ancient guardian. Once, it has terrorized the cities of the East, wiping out those who have dared to forget give praise to the gods. Gifted with flight, his heart protected by armour forged by the god of fire himself, the Hound is a formidable enemy. Within it, dwells the power of the divine. Unhinging his massive jaws, he can bring forth a ray brighter then those of the suns themselves. The legends speak little of the Hound's fate after the gods fell silent. But to this day it is believed that every time the ground quivers and the mountains sing, it is the Hound calling out to his long-lost masters.

concept: The Devil's Demonshepherd
A tortured and posessed beast, the Demonshepherd guards the 3rd and last gate on the path that leads to the Devils Throneroom. To defeat him, you need to use strong Water Spells in combination with any Elite or Ultimate ice-based Weapon. Fire and metal blades will not do much damage. His chain is long, but still keeps him contained to a certain area. Watch out for the spikes on his paws and tail, and defeat him fast, as you will need your strength to continue on and face...

Tyranx:
concept: Chestnut & Sammy Tacoface Butler
During the Great War of Pussinmaboots the vile giant mutant space chihuahuas were nearly wiped out. Knowing full well that staying would mean certain death, the few thousand that were left boarded their starships and prepared to start over again in a new world far far away. Only one thing stood between them and freedom, the bulk of the enemy fleet. During the terrible battle that ensued the giant mutant space cihuahuas suffered terrible losses, out of all the starships that took off that day, only one made it through the blockade, onboard was the immensly cunning and tyrannical Sammy Tacoface Butler.
On Earth Sammy found distant canine cousins, albeit slow and dimwitted. Drawing upon his vast knowledge of robotics and microbiology he took it upon himself to corrupt and transform his retarded cousins into beasts built for war. He took the biggest and meanest of his creations and made it his mobile control center of destruction also affectionately known as Chestnut. The reign of humans was nearing its end.

concept: Nether Fetch: The Abomination
A hundred million souls of a hundred million futures lay in the gut of the dead Gods' Fetcher. Sealed in a cave of haunted screams by Humanity's last day, Nether Fetch bides easily for it's hero. Heroes cut leashes on their searches for glory. Glory destroys all men, and so the beast grins.

Helzon:
concept: The game: Katter and Brax IX: Bozon's Brigade
The premise: Katter and Brax have battled savagely and heroically through 8 installments of Dr. Bozon's nightmare tortures and machinations. At long last they have cornered him in his arctic refuge. There they dispatch with extreme prejudice the last vestigial remnants of his mechanized defenses. Their sights firmly set on Bozon, Katter and Brax engage in a titanic showdown of epic proportions. Ultimately the vile Dr. falters and is destroyed.
However, his faithful canine companion Natasha Neutrino...had forseen for sometime the Dr.'s demise and was frustrated with his failures to ultimately destroy the chronic menace of Katter and Brax. Taking it upon herself..she formulated plans for the day when Bozon would perish..and be ready to wreak vengence on his murderers.
Thus the T-89FYUG...*F**k You Up Good* suit was crafted. Sporting advanced reactionary armor plating, thought
guided independent multiple nuclear warheads, Rapid fire centrifugal cannons, along with maximum
maneuverability out of her twin Popuov Engines makes this nimble puppy...One Hot Bitch!

JakkaS:
concept: MEFISTO
In 1927 this dog was one of the fastest dogs in the Hampton stadium. His owner Mr. John Smitherson became a rich man, because Mefisto was winning every important race. They started to say that Mefisto was truly a devil. However, in 1931 this dog lost for the first time and Mr. Smitherson lost a bet with another dog's owner. He lost money and his the biggest champion, Mefisto. He did't want to give the dog back, so he killed him. He shot the dog five times. After that he testified that the dog wanted to bite him. There were no reasons to disbelieve him, because he paid the debt. However, few years later he was found dead in his own racing stadium, a few meters to a finish line with throat cut... like a police experts said, this could be a dog, but there were no dog foot prints on the ground.
Mefisto's special powers.
He can roar - everyone who hears it is paralyzed and terrified, and cannot move.
He can "run for the rabbit" - while doing that, he is faster then normal dog five times.
He can jump into a human - while doing that, he can possess a human. For short time, he can control the victim.
He can run into fog - while doing that, he is invisible for a short time.
Mefisto always likes children, so he just can't attack them!

Nexus:
concept: Aureobolus - Soul Well Guardian
Aureobolus was once the favored beast of Ah-puch, god of Death and ruler of the lowest levels of the underworld. Long ago Aureobolus failed his master and thusly Ah-puch punished him for all time. Aureobolus would have to live a cursed existence, possessing no skin but unable to die and escape his cruel torture. However, Votan, elder god of War and Death, looked upon Aureobolus with a cunning interest. He took Ah-puch's cast aside minion and placed mystical golden armor upon him transforming him into his new herald and harbringer of destruction. Unfortunately, Votan's arcane armor slowly wore what few vestiges of sanity Aureobolus possessed completely away and in a fit of rage the creature turned on its new keeper. So with a heavy heart Votan sentenced the creature to guard a powerful artifact, the Soul Well, for all eternity.
Aureobolus loosely means "the golden devil" as he is both an undying abomination and shrouded in nigh impenetrable magic armor. Many centuries after Aureobolus' banishment to the Soul Well chamber, a maniacal necromancer heard tale of the the Soul Well. After years of searching he finally came upon the Soul Well, a churning prison of hapless souls, and utilizing his many dark arts linked his own arcane energies with it and thereby taking control over the great beast guarding the well. Mayan researcher, Jack Reynolds, also finds evidence of the strange artifact known as the Soul Well and begins a journey through the varying Mayan temples in search of this supposed myth.
Stage 1: Jack must dodge only two attacks in this first stage. Aureobolus will fire a cloud of homing skulls to pummel Jack at random times. He will also used the golden idols upon his back to siphon souls from the Soul Well and then launch the souls in a series of green flaming explosions, much like carpet bombs. After dodging enough of his attacks Aureobolus will become enraged and charge Jack. At this point you must position yourself behind one of the golden pillars encircling the chamber so that Aureobolus charges headfirst into it. This is the only way to damage him in Stage 1.
Stage 2: After you have successfully crashed Aureobolus into all of the pillars the next stage begins. At this point a cut-scene pops up and shows Jack rushing for the rope with which he entered the arena, with Aureobolus in hot pursuit. In this stage you will only be able to view the rocky wall leading up to the entrance. You have to listen carefully for Aureobolus's skull swarm and soul siphon attacks and quickly swing out of the way while you make your way to the ledge. Once you reach the top, stage 3 starts.
Stage 3: Once at the top Jack leaps onto Aurebolus back. This stage is about reaction time. When Aurebolus lunges to the left Jack must be ready to lean the opposite direction so he doesnt fall and vice versa. While on the creature's back Jack must shoot away the supports holdind up the soul siphon idols as these are the source of Aureobolus' power. Once all four idols are toppled the final stage begins.
Stage 4: In this stage Jack can actually damage the beast because its magical armor has dissolved without the power of its idols. However now Aureobolus will be much quicker and attack more steadily. In addition he now will launch a beam attack, Eye of Retibus, to encase Jack in gold immobilizing him completely. Also Aureobolus will drink from the Soul Well and then vomit a torrent of souls and corpses upon the floor causing damage to Jack if he touches it.

cartoonfox:
concept: Infurrnoe - The Skinned Dog of Doom!
Huge end boss, to be fought inside a large fire cave.
This gross, fur-less beast uses it's fire breath to burn the Player.
It also stomps its front two feet/stumps to create an earthquake-like effect, causing the player to fall over, unless on higher ground.
It also causes rocks and small boulders to fall from the top of the cave. The Player can see the falling rocks' shadows momentarily for a chance to avoid being crushed.
To defeat Infurrnoe, the Player must first shoot its front two claws untill they are damaged, (they burst/bleed when fully damaged) then shoot the under belly, to cause Infurrnoe to stop, resting its head on the ground, out of breath/energy for approx. 10 seconds. When this happends the Player must jump on to its snout and shoot it in its head. The creature screams and shakes its head. The Player must jump off quickly, or will fall off and lose health.
repeat twice to kill Infurrnoe.

OK - before voting/posting read this!!!

1. Please give c&c or a reason why you voted for the image!

2. Feel free to comment on any or all entries, the artists will appreciate it!

not accepted entries:

all which stated it was a wip or if it wasn't obvious it's finished (Eriboss, it was hard to reject your one in this case)

close to rejection:

so many which don't have a special weapon, neither in the image nor in the description...but it was my fault saying that you don't need a description, this way i can't judge if there is a sepcial weapon or not...next time i will mention it :)

Now here is the opposite case of the WIP/not stating/reject thingie...Standing said he doesn't want his entry taken to the poll because he thinks it's unfinished...SORRY, Standing, but this artwork is highly conceptart and it fits every criteria...quality, idea, style, design etc...and that's why my vote goes to you - once again - this time! Thank you! :)

Tyranx got my vote.

After much thought my vote goes to Ceberae. I think it is the coolest design, and the description tells of the special weapon which also shows that some thought went into it.

There were too many good ones this round, Chuck, mate, Dariz, and Standing were my other favorites. Coondoggle that is a great style, and Complete2 that pic is great, my only crit on yours is that while the dog does have a mean looking expression, he really just looks like a regular ol' dog. Nexus, I liked your idea a lot too.

Man talk about tough decisions. Aftermuch deliberation I finally decided on Chuck, mate.’s entry. I really liked the composition and the way it emphasizes the height disparity between the player and the boss monster.

I wanted to vote for complete2's piece as I think it is simply amazing. However I chose Chuck's over this one as it felt more like a monter than a simply a giant dog. None the less a wonderful piece and the only one that actually had me wondering what the story was and how it was going to unfold. :)

My other favorite was Bluefooted's piece. Beautiful work on this piece. The rendering is nice and I love the watercoloring. I even like the flowers on the little hill he is on. While the image didn't portray "huge dog endboss" to me, I could definitely see this as a major game character. Some sort of god-spirit the player would have to bargain with to get the informattion they needed to complete the quest. It would also make a wonderful book illustration. good job :)

Awesome entries everyone!

Fozzy - sorry for the lack of description on mine - it spits fire, btw. I had to call up my sister and have her post it :x since the forums weren't working for me yesterday. Masque came up with a way to get around it but things didn't work out (thanks Masque! I would have taken you up on your offer but I got locked out of the forums right after I PM'd you!)

I'll put some crits up after I've had a chance to examine all the entries... and assuming I'm still able to get to the forums.

Cheers!

North West Gaurdian
He patrols the Coast from Northern California to Washington,
He is an ancient protector bound to this task by Native American Magic....A small forest that lives and produces life grows on his back.... The lighthouse was put there by an old sailor and is now run by his now-ancient wife.

In a platform/run and jump game, this boss would be perfect... he provides an intersting setting for a final level, the perfect half-way mini boss at the lighthouse or whatever...

Wait, choosing? Oh man…
These are all great concepts, but one entry really stands out for me. By meaning well, but ultimately becoming men’s worst enemy, masque’s BDP wins my vote. I think it has the same quality that makes game concepts like Katamari Damacy catch people off guard. And cuteness is the most powerful secret weapon of them all! I love the idea and the execution. *ceberae throws a doggie treat to the “puppiosity”, and promptly leaves the scene to escape its wrath*

man, o man, talk about yer tough choices! all good and a lot of great work, which came down to three superb pieces for me: Tyranx, for thoroughness, wit and polish; Standing, for sheer juggernautric orneriness; and ceberae, for clean & classical execution & a definite mystical, mythical atmosphere that matches the written concept exactly. by a very slim margin ceberae got the vote, mainly 'cause i can look at the pic & visualize that jaw unhinging and thinking "Oh, shit, I'm toast!" and because i'd love to try to model & animate that beast (though i'd need to have access to normal mapping to do it up right, and i don't at present).

Okay, my vote is for complete2's picture!

Everyone else's designs are nice (Sammy in space is priceless), but I'm voting for complete2's because it has everything: it's powerful, it's well drawn, and it puts my mind right in the middle of what I imagine is a really cool story.

I went with ceberae. Awesome design and the presentation makes it look like something straight out of a video game instruction manual.

A couple of my other favorites..

Masque: It made me giggle when you posted the original wip, and it makes me giggle now. I know it says "BDP" on the tag on the middle one, but at first glance I thought it said "BOP", which ironically also fits, lol.

MIKECORRIERO: That's my favorite shade of blue, so I'm biased. ; ) The only suggestion I'd have would be to make the ice on his fur a little more reflective in parts so it's a little more obvious he's frozen (unless that's just blue fur, in which case feel free to ignore me~). I love it, though.

DARIZ: Looks a bit more like a reptile than a dog, especially in the face, but I still like the design.

bluefooted: Again,I could see this on the inside of an instruction manual. Your style reminds me a bit of Yoshitaka Amano, which is definitely a good thing. : )

There were a ton of good entries this round, sorry mine's totally not up to snuff, lol. :cheerleader:

I voted depleted: not necesarily the most original, but it does provide the scarefactor, bit of sickening textures and excellent coloring/lighting. my special prize would go to masque: stylish, funny and original. Could work for an Earthworm Jim endlevel.
Others I give mad props to: chuck, mate, ceberae, tyranx for the one on the right, coondoggle, eccentric... more of you, actually.
Congrats to all of you!

I voted Standign as well. The creature still very much feels like a dog whilst some of the designs are pure monstrous in nature. I could just easily see this dawg running around the junkyard level. That's my other issue with some of the designs. Some don't feel designed with 'videogame' in mind.

no offence, but how does dariz even qualify? his doesn't even look like a dog, and on top of that, hes got a saddle on. is that saddle for a human?
if so, then his "dog" isn't very giant.

i think his entry qualifies rather well...the overall anatomy reminds a lot of canine animals...the only thing is the head which looks a little more reptile, but it's a twist in the design in my eyes, since his creature is altered in each area, still keeping the canine shape...

And as to the saddle...maybe a giant cyclops is sitting on it? or anything which is much bigger than humans...so i have no problem at all with this entry...

I am a little more concerned about let's say complete2s entry...it's basically a Mastiff....and only a Mastiff just bigger in size...the story is nice, yes, but where's the special weapon? the fresh design? Nothing against your piece, complete2, i like it as far as it goes for illustration, but it's a little too less imo concerning COW which is based upon Design, Concept and sticking to the topic...

I hope you don't take offense, it's just the way COW works...giving crits and saying your opinion ;)

not in COW, but you can post it in the sketches & work in progress forum (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29)

or in your sketchbook...

I went for Ceberae. Lovely design, excellent personality, and retained the dog features the best working within the topic.

Other entries were excellent pieces, but were animals other than dogs. You could say they "strayed" from the topic.

Ceberae, my only negative comments on your design is that it would probably have to have some proportions tweaked to be animated effectively. The shoulder and elbow on the forelegs jam together and would have to be pulled further apart in the model, and also the neck is so far back that it would not be able to bite effectively. Would need to be pulled forward.

That would be the only beef if I were given that concept to model for a game.
:) Small things, but very important.

Good work everyone!

yeah i know it was just a giant mastif. i was just thinking of that moment in god of war when he finds the Titan that roams around the desert with pandoras box on his back.
did you see my WIP sketches in my sketchbook Fozz?
there was another piece i considered, but got bored with it.

They filled the criteria.
Really, do people read the criteria before they vote? or do they just vote for the 'pretty' picture?

masque: thanks (I was thinking about modeling him as well)
coondogle: Thank you for the critique. Excellent points. You have great texture and mood going on in piece as well, and I would have really liked to see more of the creature.
silentkitty: thank you. And don't bring down your own work, I think you did great. A bit of refining of the background (since you've included it) would really make the piece "pop".

i can understand jonoy`s beef about people voting for the `pretty picture`
and not much for the actuall criteria.
but i do feel that a good image should be considered when voting.
i mean - one could fill the description needs to the letter, using stick-figures and daubs of color.
but then - were`s the design part of the creature/character design?

i agree - most of the time the chosen pieces aren`t quite what the brief required. but still - always great designs and great drawing/painting.
so the 30%-70% ratio may vary, beautiful art and criteria
both playing a part.

anyway -
voted for masque - a wonderfull idea, well executed. too cute.
(i was smiling like crazy for an hour..)

jakkas, dariz, standing, ceberae, - very close runner-ups.
all very good pieces, with loads of great colors and designs.

Looking at the voting as it stands now, the picture coming first, while a cool piece of art lacks any mention of a special weapon within the picture or text.
You are 2nd atm (Chuck, mate) and I think your piece is far superior as a concept art and that is surely what the C.O.W is about (also a better picture allup).
I would definitely not vote for a stick-figure-theatre and certainly don't expect everyone to read the brief when voting;
However, there is a brief for a reason;- the artists participating.
In a studio, if you don't follow the brief, you simply don't cut the mustard.
If all the artists followed the brief I may have voted differently, yet when art the likes of Chuck, mate , masque, tyranx, helzon, cerebrae and standing are overlooked (cool designs and renderings) for art that doesn't clearly illustrate the concept then it reminds me of the greatest flaw and biggest boon in democracy.
This isn't to say that Dariz and Complete2's artworks are crap, they are beautiful designs and renderings but imho fail to clearly illustrate the brief.

well, being 2nd in place (as for the moment) and all -
i can honestly say i DO think
there are a couple or more better works this round than the one placed 1st (which is great also, but do lack any special weapon description visualy or by text + artwork could be done better; rendering and color wise...no offence.).
but this is my opinion, and like in any democracy - there are agendas and all sorts of politics at play.

all in all - the reason for the polls is like the reason for money in poker - to make things interesting for the participants.
so taking part in an activity is reason enough to create.
wining is merely a perk.

I voted Jakkas for his creepy endboss dog and his dying breath.

Fozzybar thank you for understanding my p.o.v.
fail to clearly illustrate the brief
Jonoy-i think i need to make things clear about the weapon: his head is a weapon and he is useing it to chop things laying his weight on it or to breake doors or gates as he enters or even to dig for the enemies who hide in the swamp. His head is a shield and a weapon as the rino is useing his. Iep, it'z not a dog's head is a weapon( itz a combination of metal whith organic staff....it looks like this doesen't it?) but the body has the anatomy of a dog.
I thought itz obvios he attacks useing his jawls wich are transformed for this type of actions.
artwork could be done better; rendering and color wise...no offence.).

Chuck,mate- Iep, there is always a 'next level' where you can go whith a drawing.
Cheers

:)great comment, chuck, and a good attitude to adopt. and thanks for the vote, too :teeth:, pleased to have brought some cheer.

re: voting. i've said this before, but it's maybe worth revisiting: the voting on these activities is often all over the map in terms of voting criteria because votes aren't made by a homogenous population; there are no standards to meet for participating in a poll except having an opinion and being willing to express it. really can't expect consistency under those circumstances.

the best "filter" for dealing with off-brief voting is the mod, who has a tough job (but somebody's gotta do it), and we have to trust him or her to always be both fair and strict. i do, though i might disagree with some decisions (i did this time, for example). but i'm not gonna beotch about the pics taken to poll 'cause i can't read the mod's mind and therefore can't know exactly why certain decisions have been made.

which is not to say "Can the rants," they're helpful for "growing" the activity if presented without rancor or insult (haven't seen any of that so far, myself). hell, i've been tempted to crank out a long diatribe/tutorial about "How to really look at a picture" in the hopes of raising a few awareness levels and maybe lowering my own VDL (voting dissatisfaction level) a bit, but i'd rather spend the time doing art.

ultimately, keep in mind that getting a large vote in a poll doesn't mean a pic is "better" than any other. since there are no enforceable criteria for making a judgement before casting a poll vote, there are no grounds whatsoever for making that assumption. myself, i look at the comments folk make about my work much more closely than the vote totals -- in the end, they mean a lot more to me, and i hereby thank everyone for theirs!

my vote goes to Nexus. the mayan theme and description of the attacks on the parchment really caught my eye.
tyranx and chuck, mate also had great pieces. the person in tyranx's piece seemed a tad too big to give the feel of a HUGE dog endboss, while chuck, mate's dog, while intimidating in size, lacked an expression on his face that would convey the ferociousness I would expect from an endboss. both were still amazing pieces. and masque's BDP has definitely stolen my heart.

you know, i was hard and strict regarding the rules and what i had in mind during the first 1-20 COW rounds...continous whining from people who got rejected forced me to losen the judgement...

As for this round, as i put up the poll thread i had maybe half of the entries not takne to the poll, because (as i stated in the 1st post here) many didn't design a special weapon which was actually a requirement for this COW round...but the problem was, i posted a comment in the posting thread that people don't need to add a description and that was my fault...

I would have rejected all this entries without special weapons, but i made the mistake and i didn't want to reject anyone because it was my fault...

But i know that for the next rounds there will be again a stricter Foz around :)

Voted for Chuck, mate. I liked the lighting, composition, and I thought it fit the theme. Tyranx's is a near second because it's both funny and nifty-looking (and fits the theme), but I liked the sinister presence of Chuck, mate's better than the goofiness of Tyranx's. DARIZ's does look nifty, and I can see that it has an overall canine shape, but the head wasn't quite dog-like enough for me and there's nothing to indicate scale.

Just so I don't seem like a hypocrite for emphasizing the theme so much while my own entry lacks a description that explains a special attack, I thought I'd mention that I was hoping that the smoking green hole in the victim and smouldering green eyes of 'Pluto' imply the presence of some sort of eye beams. I didn't want to draw the dog actually using the attack because I wanted the impression of the beast standing there waiting to fight, rather than already fighting when a player arrives. Before I added in the victim for scale I planned to write a description, but afterwards it just felt redundant, and Fozzybar had already said we didn't need one.

i think your're doing a great job fozz, i know its a really tough thing to do deciding who's gets accepted and whos doesn't.
for example: i said my dog killed God and became a god himself. sooooo.....technically, my dog has every weapon known to man at his disposal, and THEN some.
someone could draw a normal dog with red eyes and voila! you've got a dog that can shoot lazers outta his eyes.
its a tuff job for fozz and i appreciate him letting me into the poll.

'Standing
Now here is the opposite case of the WIP/not stating/reject thingie...Standing said he doesn't want his entry taken to the poll because he thinks it's unfinished...SORRY, Standing, but this artwork is highly conceptart and it fits every criteria...quality, idea, style, design etc...and that's why my vote goes to you - once again - this time! Thank you!'

Hey Fozz - thanks for the vote and the vote of confidence! It really wasn't finished, but I appreciate you liking it enough to include it in the poll - I am very flattered!
I voted for Dariz in the end - lots of worthy entries this week, but his leapt out at me. Yes, the head isn't exactly a dog skull, but the body is clearly canine and there are some terrific bits of design in the spine/harness. Perhaps the skull was welded onto the original head - yes, sticking to a brief is important, but also stretching it with your imagination is vital. I also think that as a videogame boss, it would be brilliant.
It's not a perfect fit for the criteria, but if I were an AD, it would be a design that I would really want to use, with perhaps one or two revisions to more closely match the brief. So, I'd bring Dariz into my office, yell at him to follow the brief more closely but then ask him to continue to make brilliant and well rendered designs!:teeth:

i enjoyed the comical creativity and effort he put into it.
its all about entertainment baby.

my second choice would have been dariz. nice concept, paintover was nice, but i think he missed the brief. it looks like a lizard head, and i have no way of telling its scale. also imo tryanx beat his out simply becoz tyranx gave an enviroment for the drawing to sit in. instanteously breathing new life into the drawing.

either way great stuff. from everyone.
