A little about myself. My name is Josh, I'm 14 years old. I've drawn my whole life so far, but I'm just starting to get serious about it. I definantely havea long way to go to get to teh level of some of the guys here.
Here is my latest piece I've been working on for a few days now. WHat I see right now is I need to clean up the mouth. Any suggestions will be more than tooken into consideration and use. I'm looking forward to getting your input. I don't thinks its anything great, but I hope to learn more with this piece.
The base drawing I worked off of:

How it looks so far:

Not surprisingly, the base drawing is flawed. I'll leave the details to someone more knowledgeable, I'll just enumerate the two things that immediately jump out at me (which could, technically, be motivated as your choices, seeing it's an orc and not a human being - but which look wrong nonetheless):
1) The back of the head (skull) is way too large. The face is more or less okay, but what happens behind the ear is wonky and needs changing.
2) As a result of point one, the neck is slightly too thick, and the crease where the skull connects to the spine is too exagerrated. Also, his adam's apple is too large.
I would offer a paintover, but I don't have time at the moment, so I'll leave that to someone more able than me.
With the crits out of the way, though, I have to add that it looks pretty nice overall, and that I wish I could draw like that when I was 14. Keep working (on this piece and overall)!

I'm thinking about trying to repaint it with a different technique.

I'm not toally sure of what you mean? Are you refering to the lower part of the jaw?

The reason why the back of the head looks off is because you had reference where it shows the front of the head, but nothing of the back. So what this has done is you have 'guessed' how the back should look and overall has made it distorted.
To me the shading confuses the viewer more than anything. It makes it harder to determine if everything is correct.
Could you revert back to a none coloured/shaded version?
I would also recommend orderering Burne Hogarths Head Anatomy book from Amazon, well worth the investment (you can draw heads size and shape without reference, just for the different features/expressions).

sorta looks like you started in 3/4 view on the left and ended up in ortho on the right. Heres megaquickie paintover. I just carried over the 3/4 view.

If you make these adjustments then after that i ifnd it easier working on a coloured base when painting. Hope this helps.

I will back the colour suggestion up. I have started making a pale background (light brown/yellow) and then draw with a blue or a dark red. I think it improves drawing this way because its more difficult to rub out (when using traditional), so it cancels out that 'life-line' that makes people careless. If you draw like this, it will decrease the amount of mistakes that are made, plus its more creative :P
But in digital it helps because the white of the background has gone which usually makes things difficult, and it makes things more interesting for youself.

THanks you guys :). I am going to just keep a paint copy as a reminder, and totally repaint and redraw it a bit.
Hey guys, about teh back of the head...I'm trying to give him a broad shoulder and strong neck look? Is it still the same way, because the draw over makes him look a tad scrawnier if you udnerstand what I'm saying?

I see what you were trying to do but you drew the first half of the head in proportion to how i painted over the rest. If you wanted a beefier look then his jaw or brow needs to be wider aswell to set the perspective right. You could try just beefing up the muscular tissue on the paint over.
so basically aswell as changing perspective you went from a skinny to a broad head from left to right.

Look at photos of body builders, that will show you haw things are supposed to look. Remember, if you dont have clear knowledge of something, look for resources to aid you.
