Hi to All..
I have a Client that wants me to illustrate various backgrounds.
The subject is cartoony (bright colors, etc...) But he wants a industrial rendering...perfect lines etc...
For those who have seen my work, you'll know that Im very (way too much in fact) loose in my linework...
So I need to find a method that's really clean and straight!
I need any ort of advise from you!
anything will help!
THANK YOU!!

First of all, beware of clients who want you to work outside of your style. The process will slow you down and may lack the look of confidence & spontinaity that would be present in your own style.
That said, I would recommend that you do your pencils in your own style to get the right feel for the background. Use the pencil drawing for concept and layout approval only. Next scan your pencils and place them as a template in Illustrator. Use Illustrator's straight and curved vector shapes to clean up the drawing. You can also scan some straight pencil and brush lines which can be converted to custom brush shapes so your lines won't look so smooth and vectorized.

well you can of course do analog what you would otherwise do with illustrator. trace.
after your wild pencils, get a new sheet of paper, put it on your light box and make the cleaner version with a mechanical pencil and a hard lead.
or if you dont have a lightbox, and dont want one, ink over the pencil lines on the same paper, or do the sketch in blue pencil, and the final lines in normal pencil. then when you scan the stuff you need to do a little clean-up. doing the final lines with ink or pencil on a new sheet is of course cleaner. you could also use vellum for the final version.. no need for a lightbox either.
have fun
