READ THIS
CC Huge Dog Endboss:
We need an endboss creature for a jump 'n run game. The creature should be based on a dog as we are entering the chinese year of the dog in 2006. The dog should be huge as endbosses are inclined to do so :) The dog needs a special weapon, with which it can inflict high damage on the player char (eg laser eyes, fire breath etc). You are free in terms of style, make it fierce like castlevania-style or funny like in mario64-style...
ps: "CC" stands for "Concept Creature"...it will indicate the rounds with specified concepts!

Does that mean that we don't need to draw this week's any differently than we would any other COW - it doesn't have to look like a video game, or be a certain perspective or anything like that? Just a giant, dog-based, combat-capable critter drawn in the style of our choosing?

Giant fanged robodobermans and magical chihuahuas shooting heat rays out their arse be damned, nuthin' is as scary as reality writ large (OK, I exaggerate, but that's the point, you see :teeth: ) Final!
http://www.metrocast.net/~chipartist/ImagePost/BDP_COW37.jpg
Big Dumbass Puppy (BDP) Boss Sequence:
1) You enter the level and are confronted with the brain-chilling apparition of BDP! He's been waiting for you all day long! He's missed you so much! He can't wait to frolic all over you! Suddenly...
2) The Leap of Love! This sudden and nearly always overwhelming melee attack crushes you 98.6% of the time. If you manage to avoid it (megadodge = A+B+C+XYZ^2), you are faced with...
3) The Tectonic Tail-Thump! BDP is passive, but his happily wagging rear appendage creates such tremors you struggle to keep your footing. Fall, and you die, victim of...
4) Affection Armageddon! Viscous slime, one drop of which can drown you! Horrendously toxic exhalations guaranteed to gag a maggot! A gooey meaty slab that threatens to suffocate you with every lick! Quick, get up (B+C+A+ZXY*3)! Use the...
5) Nose Hit Defense (A)! Your only weapon is a rolled-up newspaper, and it must be deployed with pin-point accuracy! Only a smack on the schnoz will quell BDP's enthhusiasm! But watch out, he has one last sneak attack...
6) The Puddle of Burning Death! Even in defeat, BDP can be a deadly nemesis. Only a quadruple somersault ninja jump (AAA+XXX+BBB+C+[L]+face north standing on one leg) can get you out of the way of this corrosive flood!
Otherwise...

Borgola: End Boss, found in the icy prison from which it was banned, the giant Borgola has been awoken in the present day. This creature was once breed and used to protect a valuable item of great power created by the Chinese. In ancient china Borgola was the god of destruction, an enormous ice bound breed of dog. He was fed on demand enormous portions every day and kept in the freezing conditions which turned its fury coat into an icy shield. Once there was no longer use for it after the ancient wars had ended and the item of power buried and hidden for eternity, the great Borgola was chained and sealed in the caves found in the north.
End Boss attack: The Borgola's breath is near 450 degrees below 0' capable of freezing its enemies and smashing them to pieces. It's slippery dwellings make it hard to stay on your feet and dodge the giants massive claws and destructive blows. As your jumping and ducking you need to figure out how to melt the ice in certain locations so that you can sink the Borgola and trap it in the water for enough time to allow it to freeze. The Borgola also chucks large blocks of ice your way so be ready to move quick. Its eye sight is poor though due to the fact that they are completely frozen solid, so use this to your advantage, hide behind ice mounds, and in some cases these happen to be frozen warriors who's fate left them to be trophies filling the long caverns of the great beast warding off any who dare to enter its domain.

Naioglar
After the Unknown Heroes have managed to protect the village of Hammerhurst from the invading goblin hordes and their cruel overlord Gload, they follow the hordes trail into the deserts of Samalune and the doorstep of the mountain fortress of Ogakan'keth, home of the Moagul'kai. Once they have defeated the myriad of necrominic nomads, destitute desert dingoes and maligned mennacingly monsterous Moagul'kai, the Unknown Heroes are faced with the final barrier (or so they think! predictable plot twist) between the Fortress' Lord; Belligerent, brutal Benny the bastard and their persuit of the Gro'Tpecnoc's Ruby-red-rod of radical reversal;
the Nasty, nefarious Naioglar.
This heavily armoured, armed and highly aggitated caninus giganticus had been bread by the barely bearable boney-backed giants of the desert as a guard for their magnificently massive mounds of gold and gems though through constant feeding of tidbits by the Moagul'kai it soon turned on its former masters and became the favoured pet of Belligerent, brutal Benny the Bastard.
special attacks include;
Chase the tail A devastating whirlwind of steel and spittle.
Down boy! Belligerent forward paw attack.
Bone Breath/Dogfood Flatulate A Cloud of nautious gas, stunning the unprepared player/s.
Shake-it-to-pieces End-move that sends bloody chunks flying all about.
Play Dead Doggy plays dead at 90% health loss (hopefully) fooling the player/s out of their hard earned $ by jumping into a special move combo as they goto move on;
Rollover & Cock leg Doggy rolls over the player/s before cocking his leg and unleashing a final devastating blast that consumes its remaining health.

hey w!l - the 'gladiator' status increases with the number of posts you have. it has no bearing on your abilities as an artist, mind you. as you can see in my post that i have quite a few under my belt, but not as many as say fozzybar. he's got a higher gladiator status than myself, but they're just words. you can look up the names in wikipedia (eg andabatae) - here's a direct link for you to read and enjoy. the ca admins have a creative eye for naming conventions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andabatae
at any rate, turn that frown upside down....you'll be a level 2 gladiator in no time (well, as long as you continue to post).

some details....sorry to clog up this thread with background 411 on the topic. :)
In Greek mythology, the three-headed watchdog who guards the entrance to the lower world, the Hades. It is a child of the giant Typhon and Echidna, a monstrous creature herself, being half woman and half snake.
Originally, the dog was portrayed having fifty or hundred heads but was later pictured with only three heads (and sometimes with the tail of a serpent). Cerberus permitted new spirits to enter the realm of dead, but allowed none of them to leave. Only a few ever managed to sneak past the creature, among which Orpheus, who lulled it to sleep by playing his lyre, and Heracles, who brought it to the land of the living for a while (being the last of his Twelve Labors). Fireshade Apparition
This creature appears to be one black mass of dog-like shadow, with burning gouts of flame seeping through the wafting form. It's standard attack is a bite and scratch combo, but the true power strike is it's body lighting up into brilliant white-hot fire and charging down it's victim. It has the ability to split into 2 smaller versions of itself for faster attacks.

Heres my wip. Appropriately named "Spike" is an undead dog that was beaten and neglected. Rising from the grave it expresses it's anger on anything moving. Spike is lightning quick. He first tries to pounce on the victim impaling their legs with his hind legs, effectively imobilizing them (or seriously slowing them down).
This took me a lot longer than I thought it would so I didn't have time to do a background. I've seen some people do their picture in bw first (to get down value and forms) and then add color later, but I haven't learned how to do it yet.

No image yet, just text for now. Placeholder. Establishing story, essentially. :)
"The Ra Shi Da - aka Fu Dogs - guard the gates to your next level.
These monolithic sentinels ensure what is out stays out and what is in is kept in.
Note: Dog on right with paw on globe = male. Instigator at periphery of gate.
Note: Dog on left with paw on pup = female. Enforcer at gates entrance and within.
Both have power to astral project their forms into raging Pekingese with frothing bite and steel claw.
You must fight these beasts in two phases. Defeating the male and then the female.
The Pekinese will continue to come at you so you must destroy that which is important to each dog.
Destroy what they protect and you will advance to the next level.
By the way, 'Fu' means happiness in Chinese - interpretation: they'll be happy to take you out.
Be careful and good luck."

I've been watching how the voting has gone on last weeks COW. It was my first attempt at entering the fray. I'm surprised I was even considered for entry to tell you the truth. As I did last week, my concept doesn't include a background and doen't put the idea in a surounding. I can't help thinking I'm screwing myself out of the running by not doing that. Anyone else think that way or am I just being paranoid?
I've focused solely on the concept and not puting the idea into any kinda of situation or surounding. One because I suck ass at environments and two because well... I only thought as far as the creature I guess. After looking over the voting from last week. I see a pretty clear pattern. The ideas that are put into their respecitve suroundings are attracting the most attention.
Heh.. could be a stupid question but I woun't learn if I don't ask ( and then get the crap kicked outa me verbaly) :x
Tyranx
February 7th, 2006, 09:04 PM
legion5110 - Putting the creature in its environment really helps sell it, it helps explain why it looks the way it does and helps establish scale. if you suck at doing environments, then make it your priority to get better at doing them.
Go do the EOW, start up your own sketchbook and start doing small 800x600 paintings and focus on composition, color and whatnot and try not to worry about the small details for now, and you'll see major improvement in no time! . :teeth:

http://www.logoesque.com/blink/Dogie.jpg
Name: Hound of the Ancients.
Description: The old myths of Quavi tell us of this ancient guardian. Once, it has terrorized the cities of the East, wiping out those who have dared to forget give praise to the gods. Gifted with flight, his heart protected by armour forged by the god of fire himself, the Hound is a formidable enemy. Within it, dwells the power of the divine. Unhinging his massive jaws, he can bring forth a ray brighter then those of the suns themselves. The legends speak little of the Hound's fate after the gods fell silent. But to this day it is believed that every time the ground quivers and the mountains sing, it is the Hound calling out to his long-lost masters.

It doesn't mean yer not paranoid...
I'd like to think I vote for what I consider the best concept and not the prettiest artwork but I could be proved a hypocrite...
At that, I am trying to enter all the weekly activities so that I can improve at enviroments, creatures, characters and soon enough industrial design.
I'd even go so far as to say I am improving, or at least I feel that way as I am understanding how photoshop and painter are used as tools more thoroughly than when I first started using the wacomtablet I scored for christmass...
Oh, updated and finished-enough on page1...
...not that anything I do is ever really finished...

Everyone votes according to their own personal preferences, so some people will rank the design itself as the most important part, others how well it fits the theme, others how pretty the whole piece is, etc. I think enough people lean towards "how pretty the whole piece is" that you probably need a background of some sort (even a simple one) to have a hope of gathering a lot of votes.
If I finish my idea for a horrible dog monster it will only be my 4th entry for COW, so I'm hardly a veteran, but that's my take on the issue.

The Devil's Demonshepherd
A tortured and posessed beast, the Demonshepherd guards the 3rd and last gate on the path that leads to the Devils Throneroom. To defeat him, you need to use strong Water Spells in combination with any Elite or Ultimate ice-based Weapon. Fire and metal blades will not do much damage. His chain is long, but still keeps him contained to a certain area. Watch out for the spikes on his paws and tail, and defeat him fast, as you will need your strength to continue on and face.....

Artiphats-- good start.
3 thoughts
1. the angle of the head doesn't match the angle of the ears
2. missing the 4th leg..I know its behind but at that angle youd see at least an indication of it I think
3. a stronger more definite light source might make the whole thing more effective, right now the shadow system isn't consistant.
of course you probably knew all this....but
ceberae---wow.
legion-- as far as Im concerned the only stupid question, is the one you don't ask, most of these folks are really nice about explaining.

well, as stated in the rules, you don't need a background, because actually it's only about the creature, its design, concept and execution...but as some already mentioned, you probably will get more votes if you add a nice background, which supports your concept idea...

Masque, that is, hands-down, the greatest single post I have ever seen.
My only crit is that without the text I wouldn't have known that he was hitting the BDP's nose. It just looked like the nose was glowing on its own.
Some great entries in here, guys...

wow, thanks, glikster! i had a lot of fun with it.
i agree that the illo and text are essential to one another, that was part of the concept from the get-go; i wanted to make sure the BDP's expression was unobscured, and figured that the "vulnerable part always glows red when hit" convention might aid the visual as well. always some trade-offs, i suppose.

Chestnut & Sammy Tacoface Butler
During the Great War of Pussinmaboots the vile giant mutant space chihuahuas were nearly wiped out. Knowing full well that staying would mean certain death, the few thousand that were left boarded their starships and prepared to start over again in a new world far far away. Only one thing stood between them and freedom, the bulk of the enemy fleet. During the terrible battle that ensued the giant mutant space cihuahuas suffered terrible losses, out of all the starships that took off that day, only one made it through the blockade, onboard was the immensly cunning and tyrannical Sammy Tacoface Butler.
On Earth Sammy found distant canine cousins, albeit slow and dimwitted. Drawing upon his vast knowledge of robotics and microbiology he took it upon himself to corrupt and transform his retarded cousins into beasts built for war. He took the biggest and meanest of his creations and made it his mobile control center of destruction also affectionately known as Chestnut. The reign of humans was nearing its end.

Naw Hwango, it's always worth finishing and posting something. You've nothing to be ashamed of because that is one badass radiation mutated doberman. I'd say throw a person in there for scale reference. I'm imagining that the doberman toes are actually the size of normal dobermans but that doesn't come across without something to scale it agianst. I really like the biohazard symbol as his collar, nice touch. Good work man, dont get discouraged, just get inspired.

The point of the fight is not to kill the beast itself but to shoot off the chains on the side and get it into such a rage that it will yank itself free. By doing this, it will open up the doorway to the next level. He also has a special attack with shooting the spikes off his collar but i got too lazy to draw that. Yes i know, shame on me.

Also it might contrast better with the exposed flesh but I don't want to step on Hwango's feet as he has already used the green eye glow. The game: Katter and Brax IX: Bozon's Brigade
The premise: Katter and Brax have battled savagely and heroically through 8 installments of Dr. Bozon's nightmare tortures and machinations. At long last they have cornered him in his arctic refuge. There they dispatch with extreme prejudice the last vestigial remnants of his mechanized defenses. Their sights firmly set on Bozon, Katter and Brax engage in a titanic showdown of epic proportions. Ultimately the vile Dr. falters and is destroyed.
However, his faithful canine companion Natasha Neutrino...had forseen for sometime the Dr.'s demise and was frustrated with his failures to ultimately destroy the chronic menace of Katter and Brax. Taking it upon herself..she formulated plans for the day when Bozon would perish..and be ready to wreak vengence on his murderers.
Thus the T-89FYUG...*F**k You Up Good* suit was crafted. Sporting advanced reactionary armor plating, thought
guided independent multiple nuclear warheads, Rapid fire centrifugal cannons, along with maximum
maneuverability out of her twin Popuov Engines makes this nimble puppy...One Hot Bitch! :P

Many good entries this week!
This time I didn’t have much time, so I have made my entry black and white.
MEFISTO
In 1927 this dog was one of the fastest dogs in the Hampton stadium. His owner Mr. John Smitherson became a rich man, because Mefisto was winning every important race. They started to say that Mefisto was truly a devil. However, in 1931 this dog lost for the first time and Mr. Smitherson lost a bet with another dog's owner. He lost money and his the biggest champion, Mefisto. He did't want to give the dog back, so he killed him. He shot the dog five times. After that he testified that the dog wanted to bite him. There were no reasons to disbelieve him, because he paid the debt. However, few years later he was found dead in his own racing stadium, a few meters to a finish line with throat cut... like a police experts said, this could be a dog, but there were no dog foot prints on the ground.
Mefisto's special powers.
He can roar - everyone who hears it is paralyzed and terrified, and cannot move.
He can "run for the rabbit" - while doing that, he is faster then normal dog five times.
He can jump into a human - while doing that, he can possess a human. For short time, he can control the victim.
He can run into fog - while doing that, he is invisible for a short time.
Mefisto always likes children, so he just can't attack them!

Well, I'm once again not going to have time to add color to a submission (I've really got to work on my painting speed), which is a shame because I was relying somewhat on color to bring out the scales in this one, but I figure an inked drawing is pretty final.
This is the Drachenhund. Half hell-hound and half dragon, this beast has immense size, opposible digits, chitinous fur almost like quills, armoured scales, iron-snapping jaws, fire breath, sentient intelligence, and a baaaad attitude. A formidible physical fighter, his favorite attacks involve the heavy maul he wears around his neck, which he frequently ignites with his own incindiary breath to inflict extra pain.

hwango:The fence pretty much gave the pic a sense of scale; the figure now reinforces that idea, and suggests why the dog busted out of the yard in the bg. Cheers!

Aureobolus
Soul Well Guardian
Aureobolus was once the favored beast of Ah-puch, god of Death and ruler of the lowest levels of the underworld. Long ago Aureobolus failed his master and thusly Ah-puch punished him for all time. Aureobolus would have to live a cursed existence, possessing no skin but unable to die and escape his cruel torture. However, Votan, elder god of War and Death, looked upon Aureobolus with a cunning interest. He took Ah-puch's cast aside minion and placed mystical golden armor upon him transforming him into his new herald and harbringer of destruction. Unfortunately, Votan's arcane armor slowly wore what few vestiges of sanity Aureobolus possessed completely away and in a fit of rage the creature turned on its new keeper. So with a heavy heart Votan sentenced the creature to guard a powerful artifact, the Soul Well, for all eternity.

Aureobolus and his attacks
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/imagenexus/Arenacopy.jpg
The Soul Well Chamber
Aureobolus loosely means "the golden devil" as he is both an undying abomination and shrouded in nigh impenetrable magic armor. Many centuries after Aureobolus' banishment to the Soul Well chamber, a maniacal necromancer heard tale of the the Soul Well. After years of searching he finally came upon the Soul Well, a churning prison of hapless souls, and utilizing his many dark arts linked his own arcane energies with it and thereby taking control over the great beast guarding the well. Mayan researcher, Jack Reynolds, also finds evidence of the strange artifact known as the Soul Well and begins a journey through the varying Mayan temples in search of this supposed myth.
Stage 1: Jack must dodge only two attacks in this first stage. Aureobolus will fire a cloud of homing skulls to pummel Jack at random times. He will also used the golden idols upon his back to siphon souls from the Soul Well and then launch the souls in a series of green flaming explosions, much like carpet bombs. After dodging enough of his attacks Aureobolus will become enraged and charge Jack. At this point you must position yourself behind one of the golden pillars encircling the chamber so that Aureobolus charges headfirst into it. This is the only way to damage him in Stage 1.
Stage 2: After you have successfully crashed Aureobolus into all of the pillars the next stage begins. At this point a cut-scene pops up and shows Jack rushing for the rope with which he entered the arena, with Aureobolus in hot pursuit. In this stage you will only be able to view the rocky wall leading up to the entrance. You have to listen carefully for Aureobolus's skull swarm and soul siphon attacks and quickly swing out of the way while you make your way to the ledge. Once you reach the top, stage 3 starts.
Stage 3: Once at the top Jack leaps onto Aurebolus back. This stage is about reaction time. When Aurebolus lunges to the left Jack must be ready to lean the opposite direction so he doesnt fall and vice versa. While on the creature's back Jack must shoot away the supports holdind up the soul siphon idols as these are the source of Aureobolus' power. Once all four idols are toppled the final stage begins.
Stage 4: In this stage Jack can actually damage the beast because its magical armor has dissolved without the power of its idols. However now Aureobolus will be much quicker and attack more steadily. In addition he now will launch a beam attack, Eye of Retibus, to encase Jack in gold immobilizing him completely. Also Aureobolus will drink from the Soul Well and then vomit a torrent of souls and corpses upon the floor causing damage to Jack if he touches it.
Well, that's about it for my first ever C.O.W. And in case you were wondering, yes that's Jack in the right corner and yes the creature is that big. I mean hell he's an endboss and thus more nasty, more evil, and larger than all the others. Sorry Jack, you're epically boned. Still working on the arena design but that little image there should give you an idea of how things work.

Great job everyone, however I have one critique for all of these...
None of them feel like "end bosses"...I don't feel the "Oh-shit-this-is-it-moment-of-truth-fail-and-the-world-falls-to-darkness" vibe I usually feel with most endboss designs.
Hope nobody takes this the wrong way. You guys at least got an entry in, so props to you there.

I can kind of see where you're coming from Theshunzun, but I would say that you're missing the point to some extent. Keep in mind that not all endbosses aren't endbosses because they are huge and dramatic (although that does help). Some of the best endbosses I've ever fought have been human sized, ex. Dark Samus from Metroid Prime: Echoes or even Sepheroth from FF7. They weren't inimidating just because of character design, they were intimidating because the plot of the game had built them up and made them menancing. They were intimidating because of their deceptively smaller outer forms that contained immense power and because of the dramatic cutscenes and environments enhancing them. Alot of times it's not the boss itself that provides the "Oh-shit-this-is-it-moment-of-truth-fail-and-the-world-falls-to-darkness " vibe, it's the moments before the battle and the story backing it up. In this case the only stipulations were for the boss to be "huge" and to look like an endboss. So I think your problem would be that some of the bosses aren't quite huge enough, since I'm guessing you play alot of RPG's along the lines of FF and the like. I think that they all look worthy of endboss status (good job guys) but some aren't quite massive enough. This could be easily fixed by making the scale reference person much smaller or adding some environment features such as buildings or containing the creature in a room. Overall though I'm really pleased with everything that I've seen. As far as getting scale correct I'd refer to Chuck, mate or Mike. They seem to be on the right wavelength and more or less debunk the statement that "none" of them look like endbosses.

Gents -
Fab entries this week all - I've run out of time - again! I'm posting it anyway as I haven't posted in ages and I feel like a lazy git, but as it's unfinished it's not final, so Fozz, please don't take it to poll.
http://www.jonathanstanding.com/ca_folder/junkyard.jpg
Oh yeah - the description! This endboss is from the robotic junkyard stage - he's a meld of biological and mechanical unpleasantry and his special attack is a cock of the leg and a spray of noisome and highly corrosive dog piss. (Some other entries have featured this as their special attack too - oh dear)

Standing -- brings a whole new meaning to "meaner than a junkyard dawg!" nasty. cool. can't say as how i see it as terrribly unfinished, either. not as tight as some of your other submissions but it has a rough edge to it that suits, imo.

K here's my final submission...
Infurrnoe - The Skinned Dog of Doom!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v19/cartoonfox/sketchbook%205/sketch-329.jpg
Huge end boss, to be fought inside a large fire cave.
This gross, fur-less beast uses it's fire breath to burn the Player.
It also stomps its front two feet/stumps to create an earthquake-like effect, causing the player to fall over, unless on higher ground.
It also causes rocks and small boulders to fall from the top of the cave. The Player can see the falling rocks' shadows momentarily for a chance to avoid being crushed.
To defeat Infurrnoe, the Player must first shoot its front two claws untill they are damaged, (they burst/bleed when fully damaged) then shoot the under belly, to cause Infurrnoe to stop, resting its head on the ground, out of breath/energy for approx. 10 seconds. When this happends the Player must jump on to its snout and shoot it in its head. The creature screams and shakes its head. The Player must jump off quickly, or will fall off and lose health.
repeat twice to kill Infurrnoe.
enjoy

masque - thanks a lot! It's not finished in that the concept isn't really fleshed out as I'd like (it's a robotic head posted onto a body - pretty dumb really) and as much as I want to get more simplicity of stroke and presentation, there is some mark-making in there which is unforgivably crap. It's a hard balance to strike between painterly, gestural stuff and work which is actually underpainted. I'll be trying to strike the balance the rest of my life I imagine!
Thanks for your kind words!
Proph3t - thanks!

Updated final with description on page 2. I wish I had more time for the colour rendering, but it just wasn't meant to be.
Redehlert: thanks mate! Can’t wait to see yours done.
Artiphats: thank you.
W!L: I tried to make him… bossier. He seemed a bit weak to me.
Masque: great concept! That’d be the cutest end-boss too. I’d lose a bunch of times on purpose just to keep the doggie happy. (ah, yes and lurking is just too much fun)
Coondoggle: yeah, spikes are always a winner. I tried to keep his personality in the final.
JakkaS, your entry reminded me of a strange website I found about 10 years ago. The memory of it still haunts me. Its title page contained hundreds of links, all saying “Bobo” and all leading to a page with a photo of a dog with bullet holes painted on its body… that said, great dog of evil >:D
Wolverine_AKA_logan: :D a Hound of Apocalypse can only be powered by Windows. No lesser evil would suffice.
DARIZ: that’s just awesome! Beautiful character.

nice finish, ceberae, very classical rendering and a strong mythical atmosphere to the piece, good sense of scale despite the diffuse BG. btw, sorry for goofing your nick earlier, blame it on my dyslexic digits (inutherwurds, my typing sux :tihi:)

Nexus,
a nice rebuttal. You're right about how a plot makes an endboss seem more threatening, (i haven't played ff7-in fact the only ff I've ever played is ff10, but I do have Echoes, and that game had a nice, tense final boss battle.) I probably should've made it clear that I didn't expect larger-than-life designs to convey this feeling...but then again, who the fuck am i? Don't hafta justify you're creativity against me.
And yeah, nexus, I agree that Chuck, mate's and Mike's have nice scale. And no, I don't play RPGs ;)

There are some really impressive entries here, great work everyone.
Looks like I'm out too, though. I really wanted to finish this one, but time ran out on me. Unfortunately, I'll probably be out of the activities for a while because I've just been enlisted as a concept artist for a rather ambitious game mod. I'm excited because it's my first legit project as a concept artist (non-paying but good experience), but between that and schoolwork I doubt I'll find the time to for a decent COW entry.
So best of luck to everyone in the poll, and keep up the great work.

Gah, it deleted both of my messages! okay, rewriting this real fast. I didn't finish my entry, and I know it's futile to post, but I figure, why not? COW inspired me to start this piece, which is very fun to work on, and I definitely do wanna finish it in my own time. So, here is the condensed version:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v35/Sapphire8400/bossdog-prog2.jpg
(detail) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v35/Sapphire8400/bossdog-detail1.jpg
Fugo
Fugo belongs to the God of Disease, the main antagonist you face throughout this particular game. He's grown monstrous and out of control, reflecting the cancerous nature of his master, and (will have) two smoking, ventral holes on either side to let off the gases that build up from bacterial and chemical reactions taking place in the dogs gut and chest cavity. His drool is extremely toxic, roiling with bacteria and noxious chemicals, and when he shakes, it flings everywhere.. so watch out!
I especially enjoy JaKKas and bluefooted's entries for different reasons. Jakkas' dog has a very creepy face, and it for some reason reminds me of the illustrations of these series of books I used to read as a kid... I think they were just called "Ghost Stories", but they had the creepiest, drippiest black and white illustrations. (Anyone else love these or remember them?) Bluefooted's struck me as interesting because of the choice of using a fox as the "dog" portion of the monster, and because of the elongated body and the almost watercolor rendering, it just makes me think of some kind of japanese demon or something. Very nice.

The beast known only as "Silence" was Gods 5th and final mistake. When Silence was created, he ripped Gods throat out, and with nothing to stand in his way he became a god himself.
His only weakness is chocolate... It gives him a really bad diarrhea.
