Too bad you couldn't make it in time for the voting round. That's a tight painting and i think it could have been a real winner. I'm glad you still put it up here. The hands and the er, crotch area are a bit strange but overall a graet concept.
Cheers!

this is dope.. this is real dope.. i really like the design and concept... i think you could have used some more contrast in certain areas to make them pop more but, its not hurting the piece as a whole... IMO I juist think it would make it stand out more... Like what you did with the head. good work.. congrats on the posting!

thanks for the comments - good or bad they're always appreciated :)
its funny you should mention the contrast, my penultimate version of this was pretty contrasty, but i tried toning it down to make it less plasticy/cartoony in the hope of achieving a more lo-key subtle mood...might not have gone entirely to plan!

probably just a coincidence, but in a few threads this week i've seen ppl talking about contrast, saturating dark areas, etc. high contrast definitely tends to make things "pop" but I'm not sure that's necessarily the goal all the time. I think in the digital age, we've grown accustomed to a lot of work that seems to literally leap off the page, and perhaps the benefits of subtlety have been somewhat lost at times. I know in my own work, I've tried to move away from that high contrast look (it's a trap that's so easy to fall into with photoshop's overlay layers). I'm not critiquing vigo's crit, as I think he was suggesting higher contrast in just a few focal points, not the entire image. but personally, i love the way you've handled the image, so nice work.
