I dont know if this has been posted here before, and i'm NOT gonna search, because the forums are so damn slow right now.

Anyways, this virus actually deletes files from your harddrive, and one of the file types targeted are .psd files. Being a photoshop user, like thousands of others on this site, it made me very paranoid.

A program that kills it can be downloaded from here:

*pats my mac on its head*

seriously though, this seems pretty nasty, good of slash to find something to "kill" the virus.

here's hoping no one here gets infected

Is it a cross platform virus? Hope no one here gets it.

Like many recent viruses, Nyxem tries to spread by making people open attachments on e-mail messages that are infected with the destructive code.

Thankfully, it's a virus you need to enable by opening an e-mail. Which is easy enough to avoid.

The worm also attempts to spread through network shares to which it has write privileges.

also a good wakeup call to back up all my files (which I'm about 6 months overdue for, at least) onto a shitload of CDrs, because I'm livin in the stone age with no DVD-r over here...

I feel your pain. I've been putting off getting a dvd burnner for the longest time.

If anyone wants anymore info, they can check it out here (http://uk.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=138027).

viruses suck ass. I formated my computer clean before now. I Connected up to the internet to update windows and do a bit of browsing without McAfee set in place properly. Big mistake. By the time I got everything sorted out, I had over 30 infections. It completely screwed my system, and I had reformat the whole thing again :\.

Hey Dave, you think you're living in the stone age, I only got my pentium 4 computer but 6 months ago and for the exuberant price of $15 at goodwill... And I still would have been using a pentium 2 piece of shit and my floppy drives... Then again for all those who use computers, I recommend that you have two, one for the net and the other for your stuff...

To make matters just that much worse... I've got no net to go to yet... My net comes in the form of a library that just won't let me do ANYTHING other than... well this.

And note that some of the artist's sites that Ive tried to go to have a nice little problem with the proxy filters here... Damn it for keywords in filters. Try to find a site on gravy and it pops up with "Pornogravy" Evil megalomaniacs.

(yes the mispelling is intentional)

I just need to wait on the IRS for my income tax return to afford to get a phone line and something simmilar to internet.
