Hi Everybody (Hi Dr. Nick),

My name's Cyril and I've just joined Conceptart.org today based on the recommendations of Jon Foster (thanks Jon, great idea).

First thing: DAMN! people are good in here! Holy Schmilblick!

Second thing: although I've been in the game business for many years, I'm just starting on my own as an Illustrator. I was told this is the best way to get (hopefully constructive :) criticism. I've a thick skin, do your worst!

Thirdly, this is the art part. I've been working on that piece below and I've sort of blocked it mentally (yeah, I know...). Ultimately, I think I might use it as a promotional postcard, but it's missing plenty. Depth, color, perhaps, what? a cat? I dunno. Car needs work, huh? Any ideas would be welcome.

Oh yeah, and eventually, I'm probably gonna put "and one more thing..." somewhere.

PS: I'm glad I've joined, this looks like an awesome, awesome place with really talented people.

Until next time,

C.

That is great, I loce Columbo to death, watch everyone on TV.

I think what it's missing is the simulation of Movement. You have a very dynamic action pose, but its totaly static, maybe add some "motion" blur onto the clothing or legs. And the guns have HUGE contrast compared to the rest, there very very black and most of the pic is sorta pastel ....

Aah Excellent remarks, Kaylon. I will work on that. Right now, I'm putting Lt. Columbo on hold because I'm working on the Thunderdome character contest for May 1st. I've picked a favorite film character. I would have picked Columbo again, but there's only so much you can do with him :) so I went for "something completely different" to quote you-know-who.

Thanks again, and I'll be back soon with updates on this one.

Erik: I've seen your paintings (assuming you're the same Erik) and I think you are totally qualified to crit. As a matter of fact, I think everyone is qualified to have an opinion and/or a preference. I might not always agree, but as long as it makes me think and people learn from it, then the crit has reached its purpose. Basically: why you like/dislike it, what you would change and why. In this thread, it's conceptual anyway.

Later,

C.
