Really dig your rendering and colour style, got nice character to it.
Looks like you're having lots of fun with these, which is a great sign. Digging the paints in the latest update, the last pic doesn't seem as strong as some of your other stuff, composition is dull and the rendering and pose seem unresolved as of yet.

Keep posting, are the oil studies from photos?

October 16th, 2006, 11:04 AM
That oil is just beautiful! (the painting, not the guy)
If you don't mind me asking, how long did this one take you? And are you able to do this in one sitting or do you have to let the oils dry when you apply skintones in layers. Because that's what im reading in most oil tutorials.
But i could imagine that it is just a technique, and not required to get these results.
Waiting for more!

Oyeah, why did you blur the hand:)

Cheers!

zandernice
October 23rd, 2006, 12:32 PM
Ha you caught me Beershite! I ran out of time in class and didn't finnish the hands. It was done in 3 six hour sittings and done from life. No real technique though

sitting one - Underpainting in transparentoxide red+alizerin Crimson

sitting two - start with all the shaddows and reflected lights turning the form

sitting three - fill in the skin tones and paint the face. I should have spent more time on the face,

...so cartoony

Im doing a bigger one right now. Ill post it soon

Hey Zandernice,

These are pretty wicked, with a good sense of humor. The only crits I have are so nitpicky that they probably aren't all that revelant. When you use a character with the mouth open, like the happy meal zombie, or some of the pencils, they all tend to have really similar faces, maybe try to push yourself to develop different 'scary' faces? There, I tried, now keep impressing us!

Yo shit is da BOMB! Haha, man I really like how you use a variety of material to make your art, from oil paints to photoshop, to even 3D! :D Most of the time when I see people who actually paint, never do a thing with photoshop on here, so I'm thinking what a waste, in the end the money comes from the use of computers. So yeah keep it up man!

Hey Guys!
Long time since I've posted. Ive been working away on Martin Scorsese's next movie called "HUGO" ...Tonight, I came home from work and just needed to put some paint on a canvas, so I did a quick paint study of a generic head -

heres a youtube video of me painting it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbQcQABy4Kw

wow man!! killer work! i just went through the whole sketchbook, but now youve got me craving more!! you should really post more often man! i love the style, i hate saying this because it sounds stupid, but your work reminds me a bit of my own. i guess its the pen work mostly, and the funny little heads you draw. i have alot of that sort of stuff going on too, been doing it since highschool and i cant stop haha i love it. but great work man, youve just inspired me to get down and dirty with my pens and moleskin!
