Here is something Im practicing with. Im new to digital painting, and its pretty damn hard so far ;)

First one is done in PS, the update was done with painter.

Here is a noob question: Im looking for good aproaches to blending brushstrokes into smooth gradients of skin tone. It seems nearly impossible to get things evenly smooth withthe smudge tool. Is there a proper technique for this, or is it just a matter of lots of practice

anyway, on with the pics

an update. Back to photoshop and another hour of work. Getting the hang of the smudge tool.

Try to avoid the use of smudge tool, and play with the opacity of the brushes instead (it is the most common way afaik), then at last, when you got 'smooth enough' gradients you may use smudge tool if you want it very very polished and smoothy. :Þ

Hope it helps.

Thanks, Jull. Thats the direction i've been moving in. For the last update, I used primarily the airbrush at various sizes with the flow set to anywhre between 2 and 10%. I apreciate the pointer!
