The mouth doesn't look right at all.

Can I ask...why you're doing "manga" if you don't like it?

I was also expecting manga...ergo, comic pages. Or at least something that was in the style. Pumping up the size of her eyes does not make this manga/anime/eastern at all.

The biggest problem is the mouth. It's situated way too far over (anime style usually keeps the mouth from going any farther over than the middle of the nose) and it looks like she's all gums, or is pushing her tongue through her teeth. It's very strange looking.

The head is too large, neck too long, eyes not looking in the right direction, eyebrows far back and almost no facial structure.

I do like the rendering and think that it would work on a truly "manga/anime" style base. I'm not familiar with your normal style, but I suspect that's most of what we're seeing here. If you had never said "manga," I would have just commented on the weird mouth and left everything else up to your personal stylization (which it may still be...).

Manga = Anime-style comic book.
Anime = The Anime style and/or an animated series with Anime style drawings.

Your rendering is nice... it's too bad that there are some pretty tough manga critics in the house. With such nice rendering skills... why do you want to work manga anyway? I would like to see your other work.

it looks like you did realality type and sent it through a really bad manga machine. Your chin is way to curved for manga also along witht the what the others have said. It's too realalistic at the same time too cartoony to be anything really.

Actually, I have seen people do amazeing things hyper realistic with cartoon praportions. I think it is good to try other styles and I commend you for it. The mouth does look wierd. Things around the earlobe are a little wierd. and the eyes are a little creepy, try dialateing them more. How did you go about that lovely background Morano?

To everyone else:
Anime is just a cartoon by another name with a nationality attached to it. If you ask me its a little rediculious that people are are so anal about what "anime" is and is not, and the further you get into those arguments, the more reasoning breaks down. Stop worring about labels so much and criteqe it for what it is. Were here to help other artists grow, not tell what style they should or shouldent play with.

I agree, except he said "manga" which is the term for japanese comic art, hence a bunch of people expecting black and white comic pages...

The whole crashing genres thing doesnt seem to be working too well...go all out flat-color style anime, or leave it alone. I can see by your work that your other stuff is probably much stronger.

This didn't really capture the essance of manga style, nor the art... really.

You can't really learn it unless you appreciate it first, and know there's more than 300 variety of styles in manga alone. Learn a bit more about it.

Raptor - I agree with zTu's statement about how "manga" was the term used and it is not just a "style" but a term for comics. Furthermore, since the artist pointed out that s/he is trying out a new style that they have not previously had experience in, it is only natural for critiques to take that into account and try to assist him/her in what that style typically looks like (at least the "typical" look that the artist is trying to go for through the enlarged eyes, tiny mouth and rounded face).
