I guess it's pretty much official now. Disney and Pixar have merged. Steve Jobs is now the majority stockholder in Disney and, if I understand it correctly, John Lasseter is now the head of animation for the newly unified company. What will this mean? Hopefully it will mean an increase in quality of Disney productions, not a decrease in quality for Pixar.

Read about it here. (http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22278)

Can't get Pixar to make more animation features for you, then buy them out! :teeth:

I believe Disney's animation unit already has the technical competency and Pixar can't bring anymore to that. But the attitude and the internal politics may make or break the brand. Disney as we all know, are totally geared towards $$$$$$. Pixar, as much as I know, are all about telling great stories. If Disney just lets Pixar do their thing and not interfere with the way they work then it would be best for both parties.

But knowing Disney's REMF know-it-all pencil pushers who know nothing about making an animation, that isn't gonna happen.

I don't think this will result in a decrease of quality or quantity of out-put. I believe that Disney and Pixar will still "compete" against each other because the historical fued won't be shaken by a merger.

This could actually be a good thing as well. If there are any displaced animators due to the joining of these companies, they will go off and form their own company. It creates more room for start-up animation studios to get into the business. As "Hoodwinked" has shown us, you don't need 200 animators and a $100 million dollar budget to make a profitable film (despite how awful the animation was in "Hoodwinked"). This might create more jobs and oppurtunities for entry level animators, such as myself, who are aching to be discovered.
